Today we held our annual year 6 careers event. The year 6 children attended stalls where they had the opportunity to learn about different career. We welcomed; architects, town planners, website designers, vets, commercial directors and those from the law and insurance industry into school. We are very grateful to all the adults who provided this worthwhile opportunity for our children.

On Thursday afternoon our year 5 children hosted the annual French Café. The children took on the roles of waiters / waitresses and used their French speaking and listening skills to serve a range of food and drinks to their invited adults. It was fantastic to see the children displaying confidence in their bilingual skills!

On Wednesday, Class 3 had a wonderful afternoon outside as they toured the village, enriching their local history learning. They looked at the layout of the village and how it has altered over time, also noticing the change of usage of many buildings. They began to learn what it means for a building to be listed, observed the features of the older buildings and thought of reasons why we would wish to preserve a building.

Year 5 & 6 took part in the annual K’Nex challenge this week. A local STEM ambassador visited to set them a challenge using their science, technology, engineering and maths skills. Working in pairs, the children were challenged to make a rocket with a specific set of criteria. Great fun was had during the designing, building and presenting of the rockets. Well done to all who took part.

Today we welcomed Dr Reading into our school assembly. Dr Reading spoke to the children about his job as a GP and his pathway to achieving his job. He also shared examples of his work with the children. It was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils and we are very grateful to Dr Reading for giving up his time.

On Wednesday 24 children from across year 4, 5 and 6 took part in the annual Cross Country Race at Royal Hospital school. Each race had over 150 runners and the distance ran ranged from 1.6km to 2.2km. It was great to see the children encouraging one another throughout the races! On Monday the whole school visited St Mary's Church to take part in a range of Easter events to take part in “ Easter in a Box”. Each class was fully engaged imagining the scene being described to them. Using the clapper boards was a hit as were the wide range of crafts. We are very grateful to the team of volunteers who supported the children in the event.
