September is Scottish Start Up month - a celebration of the Scottish entrepreneurial spirit.

Inverclyde Council can offer support to new business start-ups via grant assistance.

A grant of £750 is available for a variety of business purposes, including purchase of equipment, furniture or operating costs. A higher grant rate is available for businesses starting up in commercial premises.

The Royal Regiment of Scotland has become the first recipients of the Freedom of Inverclyde.

The The Royal Regiment of Scotland were honoured on Saturday as they paraded from the Esplanade to Battery Park where a ceremony took place.

They were accompanied by Band SCOTS and the skirl of the pipes and drums from 2 SCOTS Pipes, Drums and Bugles, with many families lining the streets to watch.

Members of the public followed the parade into the park and gathered alongside veterans from the Inverclyde Argylls, Greenock Argylls, members of Inverclyde Veterans Network and the Army and Air Cadets, who lined the entrance to the marquee where the service took place.

The service began with a welcome from Lord Lieutenant of Renfrewshire, Colonel Peter McCarthy. Provost of Inverclyde, Drew McKenzie then spoke and handed over the Freedom of Inverclyde scroll to Major-General Robin Lindsay CBE, Colonel of The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Following Major-General Robin Lindsay’s speech to close the service, the regiment continued to march on to a private reception at nearby Gourock Primary School.

📣Make a difference to your community! Community Councils are organisations that represent an area and are made up of residents.

Interim elections have been called for:
🗺️Greenock West and Cardwell Bay
🗺️Larkfield, Braeside and Branchton
🗺️Port Glasgow East

It comes after each of the community councils lost members for a variety of reasons which brought them below the required minimum number. Candidates have until 4pm tomorrow, Tuesday 8 September 2026, to submit nomination forms. Find out more here: www.inverclyde.gov.uk/ccelection

Following the introduction of the national strategy to implement 20mph speed limits across Scotland, Inverclyde Council are keen to gather feedback from residents, businesses, and road users via a short survey which closes this week on 9 Sept.

Impacts on road speeds have been monitored pre and post introduction of the 20mph limits and can be viewed here 👉https://ow.ly/rxOg50Zynf1

To celebrate Scottish Employability Day on Thursday 10 September come along to the Employability & Skills drop at Greenock Central Library where our friendly staff will be available to help with CV reviews, application and interview support, explore training options and find out about funding and job opportunities.

We can provide helpful guidance on moving into employment or advice on changing roles. Free tea, coffee and biscuits will be on offer too.
