This week, our wonderful harvest mouse team () — affectionately known as the “mouse wives and husband” of Horsenden — featured on the fabulous programme, and we couldn’t be prouder.

This incredible project, a collaboration between , , , , and , is helping to support vital rewilding efforts right here in our local landscape. The dedication, care and countless unseen hours that this team pours into breeding, monitoring and protecting our tiny harvest mice is truly extraordinary.

To see their hard work recognised this week, alongside such stunning footage of our beloved Horsenden, was incredibly special for our whole community.

Thank you to every single member of the team for your passion, commitment and quiet perseverance. We are so proud of you all.

And thank you to the Springwatch team for such a wonderful experience and for shining a light on the beauty, biodiversity and community spirit thriving here at Horsenden.

Not all volunteering happens with muddy boots…

Some of the most important work for Horsenden happens around a table, helping turn ideas into action, keeping projects moving forward and ensuring our charity can continue to grow.

🌱We’re looking for a volunteer Trustee Secretary to join Friends of Horsenden.🌱

This is an opportunity to become part of the team helping guide the future of one of Ealing’s most remarkable green spaces. You’ll work closely with our trustees, helping organise meetings, coordinate communications and support good governance so that the charity can focus on delivering real impact for nature, heritage and the local community.

You might be perfect for the role if you:
🌱Enjoy organising people and projects
🌱Have good communication & admin skills
🌱Like helping things run smoothly behind the scenes
🌱Want to contribute your professional skills to a cause that matters

In return you’ll gain valuable charity governance experience, develop new skills, meet an inspiring group of volunteers and play a key role in shaping Horsenden’s future. Most importantly, you’ll see first-hand the difference your contribution makes.

Ten years ago, a small group of volunteers started something extraordinary. Today, almost 150 volunteers help care for Horsenden.

Could you help shape the next chapter?

Yesterday we held our very first Beltane celebrations at Horsenden 🌿

Beltane is an ancient festival celebrating fertility, abundance, and the beginning of summer (also known as May Day).

We began the day with a ‘Beating of the Bounds’ walk, exploring our local boundaries, appreciating the richness of the landscape, and connecting with nature. Walkers were even joined by the Green Man — a mysterious, leaf-clad figure rooted in folklore, symbolising life, renewal, and the growth of the natural world.

After refreshments in the farm courtyard from and , people were adorned with flower crowns. The Maypole was then carried in procession to Wells Meadow, where it was ceremonially installed before joyful dancing began, accompanied by beautiful live music.

It was a wonderful day, full of energy, community spirit, and celebration — and it already feels like the start of a new Horsenden tradition, becoming part of our growing ‘Wheel of the Year’ events calendar.

Next year, we’d love to scale it up and welcome even more people (we hope will be able to join us too!). We’ll also be looking for a May Queen to accompany the Green Man.

If you joined us — or are following from afar — we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments 👇
