🌾 Harvest Time at Horsenden 🌾
We’ve just reached Lammas (or Loaf Mass), the ancient festival traditionally observed at the beginning of August to celebrate the first grain harvest. It marks the turning of the year, a moment to pause, give thanks for the season’s abundance, and celebrate before autumn begins its slow approach.
This Saturday, you’ll find us in two places at once, celebrating the harvest in our own way.
🌱Horsenden Farm Shop (10.00am–12.30pm) will be brimming with freshly harvested organic produce, grown with care by our incredible volunteers. Expect potatoes, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, courgettes, green beans, basil, spinach, chard and whatever else the fields have generously provided this week. Much of it is harvested just hours before we open, making it about as fresh as food can be!
🌱 Boston Manor Farmers’ Market (9.30am–2.30pm) will feature Horsenden Farm Flowers, with a beautiful collection of everlasting dried flower bouquets and posies—perfect for the summer heatwave. We’ll also have a limited selection of freshly harvested farm vegetables, so you can pick up a taste of Horsenden while you’re there. We’ll be joined by our friends at Perivale Brewery and their fantastic locally brewed beers, making it a wonderful opportunity to support local growers and producers all in one place.
Every bunch of flowers, every bag of vegetables and every jar of jam you purchase helps support our local, sustainable food production and the Friends of Horsenden charity’s work to care for this remarkable place.
We’d love you to come and celebrate the harvest with us—whether at the farm or at Boston Manor. 💚
