As part of Neighbourhood Policing Week it seems like a good time to highlight the work Great Yarmouth town centre beat managers have been doing since our last post back in May.

• A woman was located and arrested 10 minutes after officers were alerted to a theft from a store, valued at approximately £125. The goods were returned to the shop, and the woman was charged with this and three other thefts.
• We assisted Trading Standards with visiting several shops in the town centre and King Street, where 40,000 illicit ci******es were seized.
• Cannabis factories have been found and dismantled.
• Dedicated patrols of Regent Road and King Street have been done to speak with shop owners around the sale of alcohol, which contributes to an increase of ASB. Further patrols of this area to reduce ASB will be prioritizing over the next few weeks.
• Five men have been remanded for breaching Criminal Behaviour Orders in the Town Centre. Three of which received imprisonment and one was fined. The fifth is due in court later this month.👮
• Two E-Scooters were seized in the marketplace- please remember that a privately owned E-scooter cannot be ridden on public land. https://orlo.uk/d24Cr
• Four people were arrested for failing to appear court warrants.
• Two men were arrested, and three people have been given Community Resolutions for theft from shops. 🛒
• Patrols of the market gates bus station patrols have been conducted with partner agencies, and we continue to work with them to address ongoing issues.
• Two people were arrested after paying with counterfeit money in shops in the town.💸

Please continue to report any issues to us, via the website reporting forms, 101, or by filling in our neighbourhood policing survey. Your information helps make a difference.

Last week some of our officers joined Norfolk County Council Trading Standards in conducting inspections of four businesses in Great Yarmouth for illegal products.

The operation resulted in the seizure of more than 40,000 illicit cigarette and 13.8kg of hand rolling to***co from within multiple concealments in the stores.

It's Neighbourhood Policing Week this week and tackling the supply of illegal products and disrupting potential organised crime being operated locally is an important part of our work. It also helps reduce harm to public health; illicit ci******es may not be made with a feature that allows them to self-extinguish when left to burn, and may contain much higher levels of toxic ingredients than normal ci******es.

If you’d like to report illegal sales of vapes, ci******es or to***co, you can contact Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133.

As part of Neighbourhood Policing Week, we’re highlighting just some of the work our Beat Managers and Operational Policing Team are doing every day to tackle anti-social behaviour.

One course of action they take is arresting and putting before the court those who have breached their Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs)- these are civil orders given out by the courts, designed to prevent ongoing disruption and persistent ASB caused by individuals. Essentially, a CBO criminalises certain actions which wouldn’t normally be an offence, such as entering a specific location, due to repeated issues, and if the person given the order breaches it then they can be arrested and dealt with as if it was a criminal offence.

In the past few weeks, five people have been arrested, charged, and brought before the courts for breaching their CBO conditions. As a result, three of these individuals received custodial sentences, with a combined total of over six months in custody, and one was ordered to pay a fee. The fifth person is due to appear at court later this month. 👮 ⚖️

CBOs prevent people from causing harm to our towns and villages, and to those who live and work in them. We remain committed to working proactively to reduce ASB and ensure our communities feel safe and supported.

It was an honour to sit down with Ron last week at Ritson Lodge Care Home to chat about his life as an officer and about policing today.

Thank you for inviting us- we're so glad we could be part of such a meaningful visit and celebrate his years of service💙👮‍♂️

💙 A Very Special Visit

Ron is a retired police officer who spent years serving his community. His ultimate wish was simple: to sit down with current officers, talk shop, and share stories from his days on the beat. After a few emails and planning chats with PC Pete, that wish came true today.

☕ Stories, Smiles, and Shared Bonds

Thank You, Team!A massive thank you to PC Pete and everyone involved for making this happen. You didn't just fulfill a wish; you honored a veteran officer's legacy and made his entire year.

The family of a man who died following a collision on the A47 have paid tribute to 'a devoted father, a cherished son and a loving brother'.

36-year-old Thomas Hurren died on 11 December 2024 when the car he was driving was in a collision on the A47 between Hopton and Gorleston.

As an inquest into his death concluded today (9 June 2026) his family issued this tribute:

"Thomas was a loving father to two children and a much loved son and brother. He was full of life, with a cheeky and mischievous character that made him unique. He wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but those who truly knew him understood the kind hearted person he was. At times he was misunderstood, and throughout his life he faced the challenges of ADHD. Despite this, he always tried his best, even if he didn't always make the right decisions, as many of us do. The loss of his brother deeply affected him, and it was something he never truly came to terms with. That grief remained with him throughout his life. Above all, he was a devoted father, a cherished son, and a loving brother. His absence leaves a space that can never be filled and he will always be missed, always remembered and thought of regularly by those who loved him. We are proud to have known and loved him, and his memory will remain in our hearts forever. RIP our boy."

A Cambridge man who travelled to Gorleston to carry out a string of shop thefts has ended up back behind bars.
Lawrence King, 37, of Tribune Court, Cambridge went on a spree targeting shops in the area stealing goods including alcohol, laundry products, and meat. He was caught on CCTV and on Tuesday (2/6) admitted 10 charged offences with seven more taken into consideration at Norwich Magistrates’ Court after he was further investigated by the Op Converter team.
As he was already on licence, the thefts landed him straight back in prison where he will now continue his sentence until April 2028. He was also ordered to pay over £1,480 in compensation.
Note to self – a change of location doesn’t mean you wont get caught! 👀
