πŸ’™ Learning Disability Awareness Week 2026 πŸ’™
This week, we are celebrating the incredible strengths, resilience and achievements of people with learning disabilities.
Today's celebration is from one of our support workers, who wanted to share a story about a truly remarkable young man who lives in our children's home.
The young man faces more challenges than most people can imagine, yet despite everything he experiences on a daily basis, he continues to find joy in the world around him.
Whether it's spending time fishing, sitting peacefully by the lake, or exploring somewhere new, the simplest moments bring the biggest smiles. Even whilst unwell in hospital this week, he spent some time in the children's playground and his smile said it all – he was happy, relaxed and enjoying the moment.
For many people, these experiences might seem ordinary, but for him they represent something extraordinary. The fact that he finds joy, and experiences happiness, excitement and pride despite the obstacles he faces is a huge achievement and a reminder of the strength he carries every day.
Learning Disability Awareness Week is about recognising potential, celebrating individuality and appreciating the small moments that mean so much.
We are proud of the team who love and support our amazing young man, and who provide him with the opportunities that open up his world. We are also incredibly proud of him and feel privileged to share in those moments of happiness with him. πŸ’™

Learning Disability Awareness Week 2026: Celebrating Achievement!
Today’s celebration comes from one of our Senior Support Workers, who would like to take a moment to express how proud she is of one of the young men she supports, and the incredible progress he has made over the past year.
Last year, the young man had fallen into some unhealthy routines. He lacked motivation, often refused activities, and gained weight, which raised concerns about the impact on his health and wellbeing.
Today, he is leading a much healthier and more active lifestyle. He is making positive choices, sometimes opting for fruit instead of sweet treats. He has returned to the gym, started biking and swimming, and now enjoys daily walks, with some lasting up to two hours, this has contributed to him now being a healthier weight.
Most importantly, he has so much more motivation, appears happier overall, and now actively asks to take part in these activities. His resilience, determination, and commitment to improving his health have been truly inspiring.
A huge thank you to the whole team around him whose support, encouragement, and belief in his potential have helped him achieve these amazing outcomes. His journey is a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when people with learning disabilities are given the right support to thrive.
