Today, Mia and I stood in Tinker Brook collecting samples of river water.

Luke from Ribble Rivers Trust taught us the chemistry of checking for pollution: ammonia, phosphates, E. coli. These samples will be analysed as part of a wider scheme to protect the Brook and gather evidence of pollution damage to this precious waterway.

The best part is we now have the equipment for a full two weeks, and we know how to use it. So this isn't a one-off day.

This brook is beautiful. It deserves looking after, and it belongs to us all.

So over the next few weeks we're going to run events where anyone can come and be part of testing the water themselves. You don't need to be a scientist. You don't need a badge. You just need to care about the place you live.

That's the whole point: people of any background, empowered to protect their own environment and to say no to sewage being dumped in our rivers and seas.
