A candle next to your bed might feel cosy, but keep flames well away from bedding, curtains and anything else that could catch fire.

A candle left beside a bed caused this fire at a flat in Chelmsford last night. The sprinkler system activated and successfully put it out.

If you’re lighting candles this cosy season:

🕯️ Use a stable, heat-resistant holder.

🕯️ Keep them well clear of anything that could burn.

🕯️ Put them out before leaving the room or going to bed.

For the same glow without an open flame, choose battery-operated candles.
