Stay safe while keeping cool 🌊

It’s good to cool off during hot weather, but it’s important to stay safe while doing so. If you’re planning on going for a dip, keep the below in mind ⬇️

- Be aware of changing depth in lochs – this can happen suddenly and close to shore
- Water can be very cold even during hot weather, so enter slowly to let your body adjust to the temperature
- Don’t jump or dive into water – there might be hazards below the surface that you can’t see from shore

Today is grian-stad an t-samhraidh – the summer solstice ☀️

Marking the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, the solstice has been a sacred time for people in Scotland over the centuries after the dark, short days of winter.

If you’re celebrating the solstice (have fun!), remember that campfires and barbecues are banned in the National Park under the fire byelaw – check out the comments below for more information ⬇️

Big news – baby beavers in the National Park! 🦫

For the third year in a row, beaver kits have been born in the Cairngorms National Park. At least four kits have been spotted emerging from their lodges by our teams and volunteers who have been monitoring over recent weeks. We’ll continue to look out for more!

For nearly ten years we’ve been working closely with partners, land managers and communities to establish a sustainable population of beavers in the area, after an absence of more than 400 years. As renowned hard workers, their activity brings with it a host of benefits for other wildlife and species, and the ecosystem as a whole, so the latest development is good news for nature in the National Park.

A spotlight on volunteers 💡

It was recently Volunteers’ Week, and to celebrate we worked with hosts Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) and RSPB to hold the Cairngorms Environmental Volunteers’ Festival. Volunteers and organisations from across the National Park came together at the Highland Wildlife Park to learn, share experiences and strengthen connections.

This event was part funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund as part of the Cairngorms 2030 programme, with thanks to National Lottery players.
