The Air Cadet Organisation provides young adults from the ages of 12 - 20 with an opportunity to develop a wide array of skills, there is also the chance to take part in activities that most young people can only dream about! The skills that you will learn whilst being a part of 47F include teamwork, leadership, discipline, communication and self-confidence. These skills are taught through many of

the wide ranging activities that the Corps has on offer! At 47F (Grantham) Squadron we frequently partake in many of the Air Cadets core activities such as DofE, flying, shooting, adventure training, fieldcraft, sports to name a few! Its no secret how successful 47F (Grantham) Squadron is, you only have to look at the Air Cadet, Trent Wing or Grantham Journal Websites and there will normally be an article about us on show. We also frequently get involved with community events including the Mayor's Parlour, RAFA/RAFBF collections.

Cadets completing their Duke of Edinburgh have been volunteering at different organisations across town for 3, 6 or 12 months. Many cadets continue doing their volunteering after their time has finished.

For national volunteer week, we want to recognise the time and effort they all put in for their volunteering across different areas.

CDT Parker has been volunteering at 1st Barrowby Cubs supporting running games and activities. She has recently attended the fire station with the cubs and taught them how to keep safe in the home.

Come rain or shine Cdt Phillips has been volunteering at Belton House parkrun every weekend.

CDT Howkins has been volunteering at St Wulframs choir to help the younger children with boost their confidence and given them support to achieve their light blue ribbon medal over the last 6 months. This represents that’s they have been in choir for a certain amount of time and have proven themselves to be a kind and respectful chorister.

Volunteering at Hive FM, CDT Corol has been promoting diversity and inclusion by interviewing young people of different nationalities about their cultures, customs, keeping their traditions alive etc, celebrating outstanding achievements of people of Grantham, reading poems written by poets from all around the world, and playing great music.

Cdt Robson volunteering at church of the ascension, helping with church set up and the computer support for the service.

This is just a small selection from some of the current 25 cadets completing their bronze, silver and gold DofE this year

We would like to say a massive thank you and well done for your time, effort and dedication to your chosen area where you are all volunteering.

This week is national volunteer week, an opportunity to celebrate the hard work of our dedicated volunteers who keep the squadron running.

On average just to run the parade nights it takes 42 hours per week or over 2,000 hours a year of volunteer time. Add on the behind the scenes admin, planning for events and weekend activities, our volunteers give up a lot of time for free to plan and organise activities which they run to give the cadets a varied and exciting program

Over the next week we will be celebrating some of those that give up their time at 47F. We can't thank our volunteers enough for their time and effort that they put into volunteering with the RAF Air Cadets.

Massive congratulations to CI Goddard for passing her promotion board to become Sgt Goddard.

Sgt Goddard was originally a cadet at 47(f) 2002 to 2006 before joining the RAF reserves in a force protection squadron in 2008 until 2011.

Sgt Goddard rejoined 47(f) as a staff in April 2025 and has been supporting the development of our NCO team amongst other supporting activities. She has become an archery instructor and is frequently seen running sessions for the cadets in her free time.

We can't wait to see what the future holds and Sgt Goddard to continue to grow as a staff member

6 Cadets got to experience the new Blue level Drones course on Saturday. They learned about where and how they could safely fly, completed their CAA Flyer ID exam and demonstrated their skills piloting the squadron's drones through a set of exercises.

All cadets successfully passed the course, earning their blue wings.

In the afternoon, the cadets built their own drone obstacle course and challenged each other to fly around without touching an obstacle or crashing!

Thank you to our committee for allowing us to purchase the equipment paid for money earned via Gift Aid.

Ten cadets competed at the Trent Wing Athletics competition earlier today. All of the cadets represented the Squadron with exemplary behaviour, excellent effort in their performances and great sportsmanship, cheering on all the cadets from all competing squadrons.

Medals were won in the senior girls’ 1500m and shot putt; Cpl White achieving a bronze and Cpl Stanley a silver respectively.

Cdt Slater unfortunately lost out on a medal after a hard fought, a very tight competition for the girls mixed aged relay and very long high jump contest as well as Cdt Clegg who reached the 100m final. A very tight competition with cadets achieving 4th place

All cadets competed against tough opposition and should be incredibly proud of themselves.

Thanks also go to FS Leeton and Sgt Kimber for giving up their Sunday to help out and cheer on their team.

At cadets, we not only complete the core cadet curriculum but we focus on key life skills.

Under the guidance of CI Chapman, cadets were tasked with creating healthy ready meals on a budget.

Lots of interesting dishes from macaroni cheese, spaghetti Bolognese, kebabs and curry style chicken noodles. For dessert, cadets used their artist skills to create doughnuts dipped in custard and covered in sprinkles, and pancakes with chocolate sauce.

It was taste tested by CI Chapman and Fg Off Walker and concluded it was a draw, both teams did a great job and worked well together to present some tasty food!

While the country was focused on the London marathon, 7 cadets and 1 staff were taking part in extreme challenges of their own.

The RAFWARMA 2 Day March joined cadets and staff from across RAFAC walking over 80Kms around RAF Cosford. Over the weekend they braved the heat, sore muscles and the odd blister, with all 8 successfully completed the march racking up a huge 400 mile total.

Training started back in October and the 2 Day March marks the end of 47Fs season, with the award of 4 new silver road marching badges. The group has now earned themselves a rest before a few continue training for even bigger personal challenges later in the year.
