The summer may be over, the kids might be back at school, and the Summer Reading Challenge may be done and/or dusted. But that doesn't mean the reading stops!

Story Explorers is our reading club for children aged 0-5. The aim is to read 1000 books before the age of 6, and along the way collect stickers and certificates for certain reading milestones. And, if a child does make it to that magical 1000 mark, a gold library card will be theirs!

You can sign up your child anytime before the age of 6, and we can even backdate things for books they've already read. And don't worry if you lose track of your child's reading record - staff can check their library account to see where you are up to!

You can sign up at your local library. For further info, drop us an email at [email protected].

Thank you to the team at Acle Library for this fab photo 😍

Today is UNESCO International Literacy Day!

As your local library, we're celebrating the power of reading, writing and stories today and every day. Literacy opens doors to learning, imagination and connection, whatever your age.

We provide resources and support for people learning to read for the first time, as well as adults looking to develop their literacy skills and confidence.

We're in the final week of the Summer Reading Challenge! Over 9000 children have signed up across Norfolk Libraries, which is fantastic. You've still got time to finish reading your books, and to collect your stickers, medal and certificate.

A reminder that lots of libraries are hosting medal ceremonies - check with your local branch when theirs is to receive your medal/certificate at one of these events. There's often biscuits, which is nice.

Well done everyone who has taken part - it's been another brilliant summer of reading!

✨ A huge THANK YOU to our amazing Summer Reading Challenge volunteers! ✨

This summer simply wouldn't have been the same without the enthusiasm, kindness, and dedication of Jewel, Abbey, Erin, Elishba and Leonor.

From welcoming children and families into the library to encouraging young readers and helping activities run smoothly, they went above and beyond every single week. The children absolutely loved seeing them, and it was wonderful to watch the friendships, confidence and excitement they helped inspire.

Thanks to their hard work and support, our Summer Reading Challenge ran incredibly smoothly and was a fantastic success. We were thrilled to see such brilliant participation this year and even smashed our Summer Reading Challenge numbers! πŸ“šπŸŽ‰

We are so grateful for everything they have done over the summer. Thank you for giving your time, energy and smiles to help make such a positive difference to our library community.

πŸ’› We couldn't have done it without you!

πŸ“šπŸŽΆ Well, it's officially back to school this week! πŸŽΆπŸ“š

That means we're heading into the final weeks of this year's Read to the Beat Summer Reading Challenge!

We've loved seeing so many young readers enjoying books over the summer. What's been your favourite book you've discovered this year? πŸ“–βœ¨

Don't forget, there's still time to complete the challenge, and if you've already finished, make sure you've collected all your stickers to complete your pack!

And please join us for our medal ceremony on 11 September at 4pm and celebrate with fellow readers. If you can't make it, don't worry, your medal will still be waiting for you at the library!
