One step closer to seeing elk back in Britain’s landscapes 🫎
Last year, we awarded Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and Derbyshire Wildlife Trust funding from our Rewilding Innovation Fund to research the feasibility of reintroducing Eurasian elk to beaver wetlands in Nottinghamshire. Thanks to the funding, progress is already being made with a disease risk assessment set for early this year.
Like beavers, elk are major ecosystem engineers and have a profound impact on their environment. They are also a native species and have been missing from our landscapes for many years.
