Some personal news…
I am delighted to have been promoted to Shadow Minister for Defence Procurement by Kemi Badenoch following the Opposition reshuffle.
Having already been part of the Shadow Defence Team under Shadow Secretary of State James Cartlidge as his Parliamentary Private Secretary, I will continue to work hard in holding the Government to account, ensuring that it meets its funding commitments and delivers on increasing defence spending.
With major programmes such as GCAP, AUKUS, Type 26/31, Ajax, Boxer and a myriad of others in flight, it is essential that the Ministry of Defence is scrutinised and challenged. Given the current and emerging threats we already face as well as the rapidly changing nature of modern warfare, it is critical that this Government delivers on defence.
I will also ensure the MOD delivers on Project FAIRFAX, the Defence Technology Cluster at RAF Wyton and seizing the generational opportunity that it represents.
I will be focused on ensuring that the Government equips our forces with the very best kit and equipment and that it arrives on time and fit for purpose.
From a constituency perspective this new position will not prevent me from speaking about non-defence issues impacting the Huntingdon constituency and I will continue to raise local issues with Ministers in Parliament as I always have.
I look forward to embarking on this new challenge.
