Tomorrow (Thursday) is polling day - please make the effort to come out and vote. Ideally for me, but I'm a big believer in democracy and would like to see as high a turn out as possible.

If this was a job interview process, based on our political CVs and experience, I would be the clear front runner. So, I'd ask you to put your national political allegiances aside, and vote for the best candidate for the Ward. The opportunity to vote on National issues is later this year - not tomorrow.

When topics have come up for discussions - I've shown that I'm the only one who knows the background and history. On the Milford Golf Course site issue - one of my rivals couldn't even get the name of the road right.

I've avoided video gimmicks and instead focused my campaign on trying to get my name and my record out there. My opponents would have had you believe there is no third option by publishing completely misleading previous results.

I could have campaigned on non-issues, like council mergers (not happening), crossing points (already in the plans for the Secretts/Hurst Farm development), homes for the Pumas (already been offered one and turned it down).

I'd like to thank everyone that's supported me, especially those that I haven't met before but have taken the time to pay attention to my campaign. Thanks to all the people that have helped with deliveries, and a big thanks to Maxine Gale for her advice and support.

Why am I standing?

I got involved with Witley Parish Council (now called Witley and Milford Parish Council) a number of years ago as I wanted to work towards improving and protecting the local area for my children to grow up in. My time on the Parish Council has shown me the benefit of passionate, experienced and talented people working for the local area without the interference of party politics.

I’ve always planned at some point to get more involved with local politics and move up to the borough council, and the sad circumstances that has caused this by-election to arise has coincided with a suitable time in my personal life.

Given this is a general election year, I’m aware that the main parties will be keen to turn this by-election into a mini version of the general election campaign. However, I don’t feel it’s constructive for our ward to be used in this fashion. I want to see this election won by a candidate with local experience and passionate about the parish - and feel I should be the one to step up.

As an independent I’ll be able to vote according to the best interests of the parish. A vote for me would be a positive vote for the well-being of the parish..

Surrey County Council, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, National Highways, Surrey Police and the Police and Crime Commissioner, have set out their plans to eliminate road collisions resulting in death or serious injury by 2050.

In line with international and national best practice, a draft ā€˜Surrey RoadSafe Vision Zero’ strategy has been developed by the partners, which focusses on five areas to help minimise the risk on Surrey’s roads.

These are:
- Safe speeds ensuring our roads have appropriate speed limits. This includes a more flexible approach to 20mph schemes. This would not be a blanket approach and instead focus on schools, residential areas and town centres, whilst also taking into account the views of local people
- Safe road users encouraging competent, safe and respectful road users
- Safe roads and streets that are well-designed, well-maintained streets and support active travel
- Safe vehicles that are well-maintained and designed
- Post Collision Response, providing a fast and effective multi-agency response to collisions.

Surrey County Council’s public consultation on the strategy runs until this Sunday, 24 March 2024.

Have your say on road safety in Surrey
