I am deeply saddened by the tragic events unfolding in Nepal and the devastating impact they are having on people, families and communities across the country.

On behalf of Gloucestershire County Council, I want to send our heartfelt condolences to everyone affected, especially those who have lost loved ones, been forced from their homes, or are still waiting for news of family and friends.

Our thoughts are with the people of Nepal, members of the Nepalese community here in Gloucestershire, and the emergency responders, volunteers and humanitarian organisations working around the clock in incredibly difficult circumstances.

In times like these, many people will want to help. Those who are able to do so may wish to consider donating to the British Red Cross Nepal Floods Emergency Appeal: https://orlo.uk/tkQAX or another trusted organisation supporting relief efforts, helping to provide emergency assistance to those most in need.

At this very difficult time, we will keep everyone affected and all those involved in the rescue, relief and recovery effort in our thoughts .

One year on from launching Gloucestershire’s Family Hubs Network, more families than ever are finding the help, advice and support they need, closer to home. 🎉

Over the past year:

✅ More than 78,000 adults and children visited our Children and Family Centres
✅ The Virtual Family Hub recorded over 4.5 million interactions
✅ Youth Hub attendance more than doubled across the county

From pregnancy and early years support to activities for children and young people, Family Hubs are helping families access the right support, at the right time, in the right place.

⚠️ Heavy showers and thunderstorms are forecast – please drive with extra care.

After a hot, dry summer, the ground is often too hard to absorb heavy rainfall quickly. This means rainwater can build up on the surface, increasing the risk of localised flooding and standing water on our roads.

That’s why our highways teams work year-round to clear roadside gullies across Gloucestershire, helping to keep water flowing and reduce flood risk. Each year, we clear more than 130,000 gullies across the county.

While even a clear drain can struggle to cope during exceptionally heavy downpours, any surface water will usually drain away within a few hours once the rain eases.

👷 If standing water is still present 24 hours after rainfall has ceased, it could mean there’s a longer-term problem so please report it using FixMyStreet.

Summer memories, friendship and fun close to home!

Thanks to funding from our Grassroots Neighbourhood Fund, local residents in Nailsworth enjoyed a special Holiday at Home programme, with shared meals, activities, outings and plenty of opportunities to connect with others.

A big thank you to the volunteers who made it happen and helped create lasting memories for everyone involved.
