On the 24th June 2026 Glossop fire station was mobilised to a fire on the Woodhead, this was located in an area that was difficult to reach due to darkness and difficult terrain. You may have seen that on the 24th August two months to the date Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service put a stop message on the incident. Now firstly I’ll explain what that means. A stop message is a message crews send back to fire control to say the incident is now under control no further resources are needed and it’s in the closing stages.
But it doesn’t mean it’s completely finished, then the cleaning, testing and getting everything back to where it needs to be begins.
Now that the job is nearing its close I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who supported us during this incident. Crews from across Derbyshire, crews from across the United Kingdom. Volunteers from The Salvation Army United Kingdom and Ireland Territory keeping us fed. Glossop Mountain Rescue Team and others helping us move around
Partner agencies from across the area and country, game keepers, rangers, Fire operations group members.
And the two most important groups of people
Our fire control staff are the unsung heroes who have worked none stop to make sure that everything is in place for not only this incident but everything else across Derbyshire. Making sure that fire cover across the county is still available.
And last but not least the firefighters families. Missed meals, bedtimes, family events and birthdays they keep it together at home so we can keep the community’s safe ❤️
