Social Media House Rules - www.fife.gov.uk/HouseRules

Our social media channels feature a variety of information from our services and partners, keeping you informed and up to date with what's happening across Fife. We're here to help in any way that we can, and we will always aim to be supportive and respectful in our posts and any comments we respond to. We want our social media channels to be safe, healthy, and open places for discussion and the exchange of views and we have the following house rules to help support that.

- All users must comply with the social media platform's terms of use as well as our own
terms of use.

- We answer enquiries/messages as soon as possible within working hours: 0900 to 1700hrs
Monday to Friday.

- We will remove, in whole or in part, posts that we feel are inappropriate – for example
bullying or harassment - or discriminatory against any individual or group

- You are wholly responsible for any content you post including content you choose to share

- We will remove messages (where function allows) and report and/or block users on our
social media channels who post messages at us which we believe are:

- abusive or obscene
- deceptive or misleading
- in violation of any intellectual property rights, including copyright
- in violation of any law or regulation
- spam and off-topic content (persistent negative and/or abusive posts in which the aim is
to provoke a response)
- promotional material, including links to external websites and promotions

Anyone repeatedly engaging with us using content or language which falls into the above categories will be blocked and/or reported to the associated social media platform. We will not tolerate or respond to abusive messages. We must always remain politically neutral on social media which is why council officers are unable to reply to, endorse or engage with, any content that is of a party political nature. Political issues can be discussed with local councillors.

The wait is finally over! The new play area at Star of Markinch is now finished and open!

The new play area is a safe environment for all ages and abilities and features state of the art play equipment including a cableway, four-tower multiunit, forest bug seesaw, double bay swing including an inclusive seat and you & me seat, a carousel with seats and a snail springer. The new design is made up of a variety of equipment which will mean there will be something suitable and accessible for everyone.

Funded by Fife Council, Scottish Government, Section 75 developer contributions, the £140,000 refurbishment is the result of months of hard work supported by the generous efforts of the local community and various organisations who stepped up, with generous donations from the Fernie Trust and Fife Environment Trust. In August 2025, members of Glenrothes Area Committee committed £10,000, securing the full final budget for the project.

Great news for Fife! 🌿
Two local walking routes - Bowhill and the Lady Josephine and Minto (Brighills Colliery) in Cardenden have been named among the UK’s top 10 mining landscape journeys for 2026.

These routes celebrate our area’s mining heritage while showing how former industrial spaces have been transformed into welcoming places for walking, nature and wellbeing. It’s a proud moment for local communities in Cardenden and a real reflection of the care and effort people have put into making these spaces accessible for everyone.

For more information on the routes, visit:
• Cardenden 1: Bowhill and the Lady Josephine see https://www.mining-landscapes.org/route/39
• Cardenden 2: Minto (Brighills Colliery) https://www.mining-landscapes.org/route/49

The Minto route is also part of ongoing work to improve Minto Woodland, helping to create a greener, more enjoyable space for the community to use and enjoy.
