Feed Avalon

Feed Avalon A workers cooperative and social enterprise dedicated to cultivating local food resilience.

Feed Avalon CIC is a social enterprise dedicated to creating socially and economically empowering food systems in order to optimise the food resilience of Glastonbury, Street and surrounding areas. We start and strengthen projects within an intimate area, focusing on Glastonbury, Street and surrounding villages. We aim to support our community to gain skills, confidence and opportunities to engage

in the production, distribution and consumption of local food that is healthier, more sustainable and less vulnerable to global instability than the mainstream food chain. The aim is to develop and support a diverse infrastructure of food-related, community-led activities including new growing spaces, a 'People's Kitchen', a plant nursery, mentoring, skillshares, volunteering, sharing surplus food, public events and diverse accessible community education. More people will be growing a wider diversity of foods, adopting healthier lifestyles and eating habits, buying local produce and supporting local producers in our geographic area. We organise for food justice and all of our projects are centred on supporting those most harmed by our food and economic system. We aim to widen participation so that everyone is engaged in our food system and transform people’s destinies by creating an abundant culture of opportunities for purposeful, nourishing social and economic activity.

Chutney and jam swapping in Wells! See post for more details!

Preserves swap - A great idea Sustainable Wells!

So how much green tomato chutney can you actually eat?

It's hard to make small amounts of chutney and jam, so many of us end up with some of last year's pots in the cupboard when the season comes around to make it again.

So at Sustainable Wells' Repair Cafe on November the 4th (St Thomas Church Hall 10-12:30), you have the opportunity to swap some of your preserves. To take part, you need to label your jams, jellies, marmalades and chutneys with the name of the preserve, the date they were made (month & year) plus any allergens (mustard and nuts will be the ones to remember). It will also help if you list key ingredients if not obvious e.g. Christmas Chutney.

For every three jars you bring to swap, we ask that you provide one additional jar so that people who have none to swap can buy for a donation.
