Pathway progress update - we’re celebrating the Town Deal projects improving access across the town and its beautiful surrounding landscape 🚴🚶🧑🦼
🌳 Tor Leisure now features all-weather, multi-user paths thanks to the Robert Richards Initiative - a tribute to the first Chair of the Town Deal Board. These paths are already popular with walkers, wheelchair users, and cyclists, offering a safer, scenic alternative to the A361 and A39.
💚 St Brigid’s Chapel and Field is becoming more accessible than ever. New paths now wind through the orchard and sacred landscape of Bride’s Mound, supporting inclusive access while preserving its natural beauty. The interpretation board at the top of the path will be re-sited as part of the wider interpretation strategy for the Scheduled Monument. Following feedback on the path surface, all parties are working together to remove the path on the top of mound and restore a more sympathetic surface, one that is in greater harmony with the landscape. A new eco-built roundhouse is also underway - a positive change from its former industrial designation.
🌿 Willow Walk is being resurfaced, including the bridge over the River Brue, enhancing one of the most picturesque parts of The Glastonbury Way.
🗺️ And speaking of which - The Glastonbury Way, a 7.5-mile route funded by the Town Deal Accelerator Fund, is set for further improvements to make it even more accessible for all.
Huge thanks to everyone involved - from local residents to partner organisations - for helping shape a more inclusive and connected Glastonbury. 👏
