For 60 years, Simon Community Scotland has been delivering safe places, support, and hope to people experiencing homelessness. This year marks our 60th anniversary, however this is not a cause for celebration. The need for experience and expertise is greater than ever.

This is why we are launching our first ever virtual challenge and we need you to join us.

We are challenging our incredible supporters to run, jog, or walk 60 miles in 60-days - between 10th October (World Homeless Day) and 10th December. How you complete the miles is entirely up to you. You can do a couple of miles a day, a longer walk at the weekend, or smash it out in a few weeks. Like our support, we want our challenge to be inclusive and tailored to suit you. You could also wheel, cycle, skate or swim. You can choose.

All ages and all fitness levels are welcome. Sign up as an individual, as a family, a group of friends or as a workplace.

Our team worked alongside our friends from Scottish Drugs Forum (SDF) at Waverley Station yesterday to provide training on how to recognise and respond to an opioid overdose.

We distributed 210 naloxone kits. Our team and partners also taught people how to use the life-saving overdose medication naloxone in just 10 minutes.

Fracesco Sportelli (right), We See You coordinator at Simon Community Scotland, says: “I believe that everyone should be trained to administer naloxone and should carry it with them every day.

“We don’t learn CPR because we expect someone to collapse in front of us. We learn it because we want to be ready if that happens. Naloxone is the same: in an emergency, having it - and knowing how to use it - could mean the difference between life and death."

Lily Tait (centre) says: "At Simon Community Scotland, naloxone is central to our harm reduction efforts - a principle we all share. The We See You team, alongside the wonderful peer naloxone training group, and in collaboration with SDF and SAS, has organized a massive naloxone distribution event to raise public awareness about naloxone the life-saving potential it has."

Behind every single statistic is a name, a story, a family, and a life that mattered.

On International Overdose Awareness Day, we stand alongside everyone carrying the quiet weight of grief today. We remember those we have lost - not defined by how they died, but loved for who they were.

Overdose is preventable. The best way we can honour those no longer with us is by protecting the people who are still here, without judgment, shame, or stigma.

We created By My Side so no one has to navigate substance use alone. It is a free, discreet app providing practical harm reduction advice, a Safety Toolkit and signposting to local services.

Within By My Side you will find practical overdose prevention resources and tools, including:

Prevent An Overdose: Clear, step-by-step guidance on recognising the signs of an overdose and administering Naloxone.

Order Naloxone: Direct access to order free "Click & Deliver" Naloxone kits straight to your door.

Check On Me: A safety tool that creates a pre-populated text prompt to ask a trusted contact to check in on you.

Know My Drugs: Reliable harm reduction advice to help you make informed, safe decisions.

To anyone struggling with their drug use: you matter, and support is always here.

Everyone deserves a safe place to live. We're proud to be housing and homing people every day and every night in our supported and emergency accommodation in Edinburgh, Glasgow and North Lanarkshire.

"We take time, we make time. Each of our supported and emergency accommodation services includes wrap-around support. This means we are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. It is relationships that matter most. We take time to get to know every person we support – so that we can tailor our services to what each person needs." Stacy Smith, Service Lead
