It's beginning to look (and sound!) a lot like Christmas! 🎺🎄

Sincere thanks to The Bands of HM Royal Marines Scotland for a rousing Christmas concert, with collections for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

The generosity of audience members at Perth Theatre and Concert Hall raised over £1,100!

Thanks also to Perth Sea Cadets who collected donations for SSAFA.

A Merry Christmas to all!

Good Morning Everyone. Can someone help? I have a veteran, (Black Watch), his wife, son and two dogs, who have been evicted from their home last week. The son is with friends, but the veteran and his wife along with the dogs are now sleeping in their car.

They have been offered Emergency Accommodations, but turned it down because of the dogs. They are registered as homeless and are on the Social Housing waiting list. They have also approached Housing Options Scotland, Kingdom Housing Association and a Private Letting Agent, but have yet to hear anything.

I managed to secure a small grant for a Travelodge until Sunday morning.

Can anyone help, either with somewhere to rent in Perth and Kinross, Fife, Glasgow or Edinburgh? Even a temporary fix into the New Year would help.

I have approached Soldiers off the Streets who have stepped in when all else has failed, but I thought I would ask across the wider net.

PM me if you can help.

Andy Middlemiss, 76, a respected and long-serving volunteer for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, and former Lieutenant Colonel, has been recognised as a Community Champion by the Kinross-shire Partnership for his outstanding contribution to SSAFA and the local area.

The award, which celebrates individuals who make a lasting impact in their communities, was presented by Peter Wishart, MP and Provost Xander McDade on behalf of the Partnership - a group made up of local residents, businesses and elected councillors from Perth and Kinross Council, created to support and promote the community’s economic and social wellbeing. The ceremony took place at Kinross Community Campus High School.

Andy has been a dedicated volunteer for SSAFA since 2000, beginning his service the day he retired from the British Army after an impressive 33-year military career. A fourth-generation soldier, Andy served in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers with postings around the globe, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

His long-standing connection to the military runs deep:

• His grandfather was a doctor with the Royal Army Medical Corps at Gallipoli.
• His father was a regular soldier who saw action at Dunkirk, El Alamein, and on D-Day.
• His eldest son Peter is now a Lieutenant Colonel in the Scots Guards, with operational tours in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Andy was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in 2021 in recognition of his tireless voluntary work with SSAFA, through which he has supported countless veterans and their families across the region. He received an SSAFA Regional Recognition Award in 2023 primarily for his coordination of the Scottish element of SSAFA’s work with Veterans in the Criminal Justice System.

Andy says: "I am honoured, humbled, surprised and very touched to be recognised by the Kinross community, for doing something close to my heart, all my life. That is to care for and support my fellow members of HM Forces and crucially their families."

Richard Scott, Chair of the Kinross-shire Partnership said: "Andy Middlemiss has given many years of dedicated service to the local community through his volunteer work with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity and other groups. His commitment, compassion and ongoing support for veterans and their families exemplifies exactly what our Community Champion Awards were created to celebrate. We're proud to recognise Andy's remarkable contribution to Kinross-shire."
