Drum roll please…🥁🥁

Dalmarnock’s newest community green space is officially called…

✨ Pigeon Park ✨
The name was chosen through a public poll, with four local primary schools putting forward suggestions – and the winning name coming from a pupil at Riverbank Primary School 👏

🌿 Now officially open, Pigeon Park has transformed a previously vacant site beside Dalmarnock Station into a vibrant, welcoming space for the community. Delivered by Clyde Gateway in partnership with Glasgow City Council, the £1.05m project includes a play area, open green space, community growing areas, and new biodiversity features.

Even more special, the park was officially opened by Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games gymnast Pavel Karnejenko, helping mark a proud moment for the local community.

This project is a great example of how young people’s ideas and partnership working can shape meaningful places – turning derelict land into something everyone can enjoy 💚

Clyde Gateway in partnership with Scottish Rowing, Clydesdale Amateur Rowing Club, Stonelaw High School and Trinity High School has been supporting a successful Learn to Row programme for the past two years. Pupils selected by the schools attend the West Boathouse in Glasgow Green and participate in a six-week block going from no experience of rowing to being competent and independent, developing their rowing skills and the ability to manoeuvre safely on the river.

Last week, Niki Spence, Head of Sustainable Communities, was delighted to be able to launch a new boat “Clyde” which will enable more pupils to enjoy the sport.

Through the Calton Demonstration of Change, Clyde Gateway is testing a different approach of treating childcare and play as economic infrastructure that supports parental employment, training, learning, wellbeing, and long-term participation.

This new guest blog, our Senior Manager for Sustainable Communities, completed for Informed Scotland explores why this matters for child poverty, prevention and public service reform. https://informedscotland.co.uk/2026/05/20/guest-blog-childcare-play-as-economic-infrastructure/

The work forms part of the Calton Demonstration of Change delivered with partners across Glasgow’s Child Poverty Programme.

This morning we marked the completion of all construction phases at Cuningar Loop Woodland Park with a symbolic final tree planting — celebrating more than a decade of transformation at one of Scotland’s most ambitious urban greening projects.

We were delighted to have Clare Haughey MSP for Rutherglen join us to plant the final tree. As a longstanding supporter of Clyde Gateway and a regular visitor to the park, her involvement made this milestone even more meaningful.

The final phase, a £1.25 million investment, has delivered new woodland paths, biodiverse habitats and extensive planting across a further four hectares, completing the vision for a once‑derelict riverside site that is now a thriving, much‑loved green space.

This achievement was made possible thanks to:

Robertson Group Construction Central West, our principal contractor across all phases
Forestry and Land Scotland, who played a key role in the concept, development and management of the park
The Scottish Government’s Vacant and Derelict Land Investment Programme, supporting the regeneration of former industrial land

Phase 3 delivered:

1,000m² of new paths
8,000m² of wildflower meadow and urban woodland
Around 50 native trees, plus additional planting along the Clyde Walkway
Over 3,500m³ of soil reused, helping divert 100% of waste from landfill

This final tree planting is more than a ceremonial moment — it marks the full realisation of a long‑term regeneration vision that has created a vibrant, accessible park serving families, schools and visitors from across Scotland.

A huge thank‑you to Clare Haughey MSP, our Chair Alison Thewliss SNP, South Lanarkshire Council and to all our partners and supporters who have helped make Cuningar Loop the incredible community asset it is today.

We were also pleased to be joined by Rutherglen 900 and their mascot Dougie the Pigeon!

Here’s to the next chapter as the park continues to grow and flourish for generations to come. 💚
