It's the Meadows Festival in Edinburgh today 6th June and tomorrow. You'll find Edinburgh CND at pitch MW202, which is between Middle Meadow Walk and Jawbone Walk (quite near the kids area and main stage).
They'll be till 5-ish both days. We're doing plants but not as many as previous years. There will be more bric a brac this year due to some generous donations. There will also be a bookstall, also campaigning materials.
Local folk band 'Jawbone Walk' are doing a set, probably on Saturday morning.
We still welcome donations of plants and quality bric a brac, delivered to the stall.
If you want to help just turn up
Sunday especially needs volunteers. . . .

Military attacks on nuclear facilities have become a disturbing new theme of conflicts worldwide, with power plants in Ukraine, Iran and now the UAE subject to remote strikes.

Nuclear plants are forced to rely on backup generators to continue running safely when damage to core energy supply causes disruption.

The environmental risks of attacks on nuclear plants are incalculable, and the security liability of these facilities is rarely acknowledged in the debate surrounding nuclear power.

No strikes on nuclear facilities!

Nuclear Information Service have published another report scrutinising the UK government's proposals to introduce nuclear-capable F35a jets into the RAF.

These could carry US nuclear bombs under US control within the NATO nuclear-sharing arrangement.

The NIS report argues that deploying so-called "tactical" nuclear weapons lowers the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons and thus increases the likelihood of escalation to nuclear war.

Far from improving security prospects, this expansion of nuclear capabilities thus creates greater risks which have not been fully acknowledged by the UK government or MoD.

Tickets in the link in our bio!

The people of Scotland and the UK have a crucial role to play in the international anti-war movement, living as we do in a country that is helping lead the war drive in Europe, and promoting nuclear militarism in particular.

Scottish CND encourage our members and supporters to attend this conference and support if they possibly can!

It's been reported that the Trump administration is in talks with NATO members to expand the number of countries where US nuclear-capable bombs are deployed in Europe - potentially seeing them sationed right on Russia's border.

Far from NATO pulling out of Europe under Donald Trump’s presidency, its nuclear presence is only increasing - and with that the threat of nuclear war with Russia. It’s time to halt the nuclear expansion and close down US bases in Europe for good

REMINDER: a French nuke is just as dangerous as an American one...

Some European countries are buying into Macron's ambiguous "nuclear umbrella" offer, with Norway's Prime Minister following Germany in expressing interest in some form of nuclear agreement with France.

This comes in the wake of Macron's recent dramatic change to France's nuclear doctrine, (which has traditionally been to deploy France's nuclear weapons exclusively for French national interests) by offering "extended deterrence" to European allies.

But Macron's proposal are nebulous and thin on detail. One thing that is known is that command and control of France's nuclear weapons will remain with Paris under any new arrangement.

The age-old questions about so-called "extended deterrence" under NATO nuclear sharing arrangements remain unaddressed, namely the question of why the US (or France) would sacrifice its own cities to defend those of another country with its nuclear weapons.

Proliferation of French nuclear weapons across the continent could create novel risks, particularly of international escalations and nuclear accidents.

Its also difficult to see how this arrangement is compatible with the Non-Proliferation Treaty, to which France is a signatory.
