Statement from JCI Glasgow and JCI Scotland
We are deeply saddened to see the collapse of the historic building, Union Corner dating back to 1851, on Union Street following the major fire near Glasgow Central Station.
These buildings had stood as part of Glasgow’s architectural heritage for generations, and it is heartbreaking to see such a loss to the city’s landscape and history.
More importantly, our thoughts are with the many small businesses and individuals whose premises and livelihoods have been affected by this devastating incident. Behind every shopfront and office space is hard work, passion and dedication, and we recognise how difficult this moment will be for those impacted.
We are, however, incredibly thankful that no casualties have been reported, and we extend our sincere appreciation to the emergency services who worked tirelessly to protect people and the surrounding area.
Glasgow is a city known for its resilience, its community spirit and its people. In challenging moments like this, the strength of that community truly matters.
