First off sorry for the big gap since our last post. Plenty of things have been a brewing however...

We would like to present an idea to you all for thoughts and opinions before a full public launch across Scotland. The idea is this:

On the 18th September 2019 for one day only, we

CREATE AN INDEPENDENT SCOTLAND - How would Scotland look, sound, smell and feel different had we voted YES already? What would be different?

Its a call to action across Scotland for anyone to make a creative response to the question.

Maybe its as simple as you would talk to your neighbours more, so on the 18th, organise a neighbourhood pot luck.

Maybe there would be more support for artists and musicians, so organise a gig or exhibition for people to get involved in and take over a public space for the day.

Maybe young people would have more activities to do or more access to education. So set up free public workshops or activities aimed at families and children.

Maybe we would have more Caledonian forests and wildlife, so organise a day of tree planting, litter cleaning or bird box building in your community.

Every action uses the same social media hashtag (open to other suggestions?), films and shares it.

For one day across Scotland, we take action not in protest, not against anything but FOR a better Scotland. We stop waiting and start CREATING the world we wish to live in.

All actions will be decentralised and autonomous but Artists for Indy will provide an action pack with helpful guidelines including an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy, H&S, legal and security advice as well as some ideas, helpful suggestions and contacts. This will be an open source document anyone can add to and edit, like a wikipedia doc. The revolution must be inclusive, decentralised and open source if you ask me!

Please comment any ideas, suggestions and thoughts of how we could launch such a national campaign. Do you think its a good idea? How can we make sure as many people take part as possible? How do we capture and promote all the actions across the country? What action would you carry out or take part in on the day? How could we build a national program of events happening so people can look it up and join in? Fling us your ideas in the comments or in a PM.

Long live the Love Revolution!

Just finished an inspiring meeting with some incredible people. We have come up with a draft manifesto with some key points I will write up and share for public discussion and edits.

The final piece will become the guiding manifesto and guidelines for Artists for Indy so that any person or group across Scotland can start to collaborate and initiate responses and start to CREATE an independent Scotland

The AUOB march on 4th May is expecting 100k plus but how many people would love to come but worry about their children? The revolution MUST have childcare so I would like to host a day of kids events at The Space. This supports the independence of kids and families to take part. For this to happen we need some childcare workers with PVGs who can help facilitate. We can provide arts and music classes but don’t have enough qualified volunteers. Can you help or do you know anyone who could for a couple of hours? Please share and if we find enough volunteers we will promote the event so more families and young people can attend on 4th May

Woohoo! What a cracker first meet up!

Thanks to everyone who made it down for the first meet up on Thursday. It was an amazing group and together we came up with a good bunch of new ideas and possible actions. Proposed ideas included:

Musical and dance flash mobs

visual art board

Regular events using music and humour

Projector based activism e.g. on empty buildings

Interpretors for key messages and events

Teaser campaigns - mysterious messages that are built on

Repurpose old propaganda and advertising

Drop in spaces - safe space to share worries and
anxieties about Independence or other issues

Enlist high profile artists and musicians

'Not the news' cast on positive stories/world post independence

Crafts/sewing/painting/music tuition/skills development for personal and community empowerment - not directly political but inspiring independence through empowerment

Chalk teams for slogans pre big events

'Declare Independence' event on 18th September

Communal Mural on public wall or banner

Travelling roadshow

Creative beacon to be passed on across Scotland. A piece of art added to as it goes

Community Improvements street teams - Go out and clean up streets, fill in pot holes, do pensioner's gardens all with hi vis and branding

Release creative collaborative content - Artists for Indy label

Kids events, childcare at all events - the revolution will have childcare!

The next meeting will be on 2nd May to decide on moto, logo, manifesto and AfI guidelines. This template package can then be franchised and replicated anywhere across Scotland. AfI will be decentralised and will not have a central organising committee. Every action will be self organised and autonomously led by those involved.Anyone is entitled to carry out an action under the AfI banner as long as it is within the manifesto and guidelines set out to ensure inclusion, diversity and creativity.

Sorry for brain dump but gives you a wee look into some of the things we can organise together. If anyone would like to host an event or action similar to those listed above, please come to the next meeting on 2nd May or get in touch.
