St Margaret’s Children and Family Care Society is a registered Charity and Voluntary Adoption Agency in Scotland. The organisation was initially founded in 1955, meaning that we have almost 60 years’ experience of providing high quality adoption services for children and their families. We strongly believe that every child has the right to grow up in a safe, loving and secure family environment. O

ur primary role at St Margarets is to recruit Prospective Adopters for children who are no longer able to live within their birth family. Adoption is a very rewarding but also life-changing decision, for yourself, for the children and also for your wider family. We are committed to delivering a high quality and personalised service to take you through each and every step of your adoption journey. We provide many services in relation to adoption, including the services for those interested in adoption, on-going support and training for adoptive families, as well as services for adopted adults and services for birth parents. We understand that you will have many questions. Whether you are thinking of adoption, have already adopted or have been adopted yourself, we hope that you will find some helpful information on our website. Should you have any further questions in relation to adoption please feel free to contact one of our Social Workers who will be happy to have an informal discussion or answer any questions you may have.

We are delighted to share this wonderful BLOG written with one of our amazing social workers, about a sibling group of 3 children who found their forever family from St Margaret’s after meeting them at an Activity Day hosted by the Scottish Adoption Register Last Year.

This is a strong reminder of the vital role voluntary adoption agencies play in keeping siblings together.

At St Margaret’s we are fully committed to and

"Adopting siblings is more than simply keeping brothers and sisters together. It is about valuing the special relationship which provides a sense of identity, security and belonging throughout their lives."

For this years National Sibling Day (10th April 2026) SAR wanted to share a positive news story about a sibling group of three, the oldest being 11, finding their family at our Adoption Activity Day held Siblings Reunited - STAR in August last year. Below is a link to a blog that has been written by practitioners who supported the children and the family through the adoption process and the adopters themselves.

It’s Thursday of our ‘Freshly Picked Questions’ week on the lead up to our next Open Day, being held on Wed 8 April 2026, and today we are looking at work life when adopting.

Did you know that as an adoptive parent, you will be entitled to the same levels of support and leave as you would have if you were having a birth child? The detail of this will depend upon the policies and procedures of your employer, however, this would generally include entitlement to adoption leave (similar to maternity leave rights).

If you are thinking about adoption contact us today, we’d love to hear from you!

Day 3 of our week of ‘Freshly Picked Questions’ on the lead up to our next Open Day being held on Wed 8 April 2026 and today’s topic is your home.

Did you know that you do not have to own your own home to become and adoptive parent?

Our main priority is to find safe, loving, nurturing families for children, regardless of whether you rent or own your home. The only requirements are that you have stability and a spare bedroom for the child you may adopt.

If you are thinking about adoption contact us today, we’d love to hear from you!

24/03/2026

As we continue our week of ‘Freshly Picked Questions’ on the lead up to our next Open Day being held on Wed 8 April 2026, we are looking at families who already have birth children.

Did you know that we welcome applications from families with birth children? In many cases being a parent brings valuable skills, experiences and insights as you become an adopter. For many children there are great benefits to being placed in a family where they will have a big brother or sister.

Adoption is a wonderful route to grow your family. We would look for there to be at least two years between your birth child and any child you may adopt.

If you are thinking about adoption contact us today, we’d love to hear from you!

As we approach Spring and our next Open Day being held on Wed 8 April 2026, we wanted to answer some ‘Freshly Picked Questions’ this week.

Did you know that there is no upper age limit in adoption? You do need to be at least 21 to adopt.

There are currently many children across the UK aged from birth to ten years waiting on their adoptive home. We therefore need adopters of different ages to meet their needs.

The main requirement is that you are able to care for and support the child for the duration of their childhood.

If you are thinking about adoption contact us today, we’d love to hear from you!
