What if the experience you’ve already gained at work could help you earn a degree?

Our latest case study shares Joanne’s story. Joanne, an employee at North Ayrshire Council, used her workplace experience to demonstrate she already met the learning outcomes of year one of a Business & Project Management degree at the University of the West of Scotland.

This meant she was able to progress straight into year two - saving time and money, and avoiding repeating learning she had already achieved through her job.

This was made possible through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), a process that formally recognises existing skills and knowledge and applies them towards a qualification - helping learners fast-track their studies.

An SCQF level shows how difficult a qualification is. The levels range from 1 to 12 and go from basic to more advanced learning. For example, a Higher is at SCQF level 6, while a PhD is at SCQF level 12.
