Work begins on 16th June on the Argyle St East Avenues Project, with work starting on the stretch between Queen St and Miller St:

Pavements will remain open, and access to businesses will be maintained, but inevitably there will be disruption.

The Argyle Street East Avenue will see the introduction of high-quality public spaces along a key retail street in the city centre. As part of the commitment to a sustainable city, the scheme will rationalise key bus routes through the city centre, better integrating them with local and national train stations.

This will make it easier to get around, helping connect the city better, and make it more eco-friendly. This Avenue will connect the East of the city centre and the Barras creating important connectivity through the city centre.

TRNSMT takes place on Glasgow Green from 19th to 22nd June. As a result, there will be numerous restrictions in our area. The roads affected and dates are:

Bridgegate, Jocelyn Square, King St, Mart St, Saltmarket
TRNSMT will be broadcasting Scotland’s World Cup match on the 19th, so there will be late night disruption.

📣 Update - Union Street - 21 May 2026

The cordon around Union Street and Gordon Street has now been reduced, meaning that the pavement on the north side of Gordon Street across Renfield Street has reopened for pedestrians. Vehicle access is still restricted, and Union Street from Gordon Street remains closed.

The MCTCC website has been updated with the latest planning and licensing applications for the area, including alterations to Granite House on Stockwell St (for student accommodation).

📢 After the title deciding match at Celtic Park, the vast majority of fans celebrated in the right way.

Fans also overwhelmingly observed the request to stay away from Trongate or moved on quickly.

However, the behaviour of some people in the aftermath of yesterday’s match was, quite frankly, an embarrassment.

They let down the city, their club and their fellow fans.

Those involved – yesterday and over recent years - know the impact that they have on local communities and businesses. They do not care.

We will continue to offer whatever support we can to the city’s clubs to facilitate safe and sustainable celebrations that will be meaningful to fans.

We have regularly met with the police and Celtic for nearly a year to discuss the relationship between the city and Celtic, including victory celebrations.

We expect those meetings to continue in the coming weeks.

But, right now, it is time for those who go out of their way to cause damage and disruption to be held accountable.

After a significant clear-up operation, temporary road closures were lifted around 11pm on Saturday night.
