What difference can the right type of temporary home make?

A good temporary home is about much more than having a roof over your head. It can provide stability, dignity and the chance to rebuild your life.

In our latest blog, Housing Development Partner Linzi Irvine explores what good-quality temporary accommodation looks like and why it matters. The piece also shares the experiences of two Right There residents whose lives have been changed by having a safe, settled place to stay.

We are thrilled to announce Blayre is our Mentor of the Month for August, in recognition of her fantastic work, enthusiasm and commitment as a Volunteer Mentor 💛

Blayre began her Intandem Mentoring journey with Right There in early 2026 and was matched with M. They bonded quickly and have gone from strength to strength over the past few months. Blayre has been consistent and enthusiastic throughout, as well as a brilliant champion for the programme; M described her as “The Best in the world”.

M’s aunt described Blayre as "absolutely wonderful", adding; “I've had many placements for M over the past 10 years of looking after her and no one compares to Blayre, she's just a breath of fresh air. She has given M great friendship and confidence in life”.

We're pleased to share that from October, Right There will deliver the Highland Intensive Support Service, providing intensive outreach support to children, young people and families across the Highlands.

We're looking forward to building on the fantastic work already delivered by Action for Children Scotland and working closely with Highland Council and partners to ensure a smooth transition for the people and families who access support.

We're also recruiting for a range of roles ahead of the service beginning on 1 October and look forward to welcoming new colleagues to the team.

People facing homelessness cannot wait years for new homes to be built.

In our latest blog, our CEO Janet Haugh highlights that while increasing affordable housing supply remains essential, we must also make better use of the homes that already exist.

Through our short-term housing model, Right There works with Glasgow City Council, landlords and letting agents to provide safe, furnished homes in local communities, helping people access stability and support while longer-term housing options are identified. Today, we help manage almost 600 properties across Glasgow.

🌟Meet Kiah! 🌟
Kiah, who is supported by our Young People and Family Support team in Orkney, has been hard at work creating handmade gifts and prizes for the Right There stall at the Orkney County Show this weekend.

Kiah has dedicated countless hours creating some amazing knitted characters and colourful crafts - all in aid of raising money to prevent homelessness.

We are incredibly grateful for all the time, creativity and effort she has put in to support a service which means a lot to her.

Exam results day can bring a mix of emotions.

Our staff are sharing what they did after leaving school and where they are now. Their journeys show that careers rarely follow a straight line; from military careers, university studies and apprenticeships, to a variety of roles in our charity, each person found their place differently.

We're delighted to announce that our Mentor of the Month for July is Aisling! 🌟

Aisling was the very first mentor to join our Young Persons Mentoring team, and over the last five months she and her mentee, P, have built a fantastic relationship. Together, they've grown in confidence and gone from strength to strength.

P's gran shared just how much Aisling's support has meant:

"Aisling is an amazing mentor. She has completely brought P out of her shell and I'm so pleased she's received Mentor of the Month for her kind and caring nature."

After four years as Chair of our Board of Trustees, Bob Cowie is stepping down from his role. In his farewell blog, Bob reflects on his time with Right There, the people who have inspired him, and the organisation’s journey over recent years.

Following his final Board meeting last night, Trustees and members of the Leadership Team came together for a farewell meal to thank Bob for his dedication, leadership and support over the past four years.
