Our first Meeting of our 2025-2026 Programme will be at
The Glasgow Theosophical Society, 17 Queens Crescent, G4 9BL
On Thursday the 18th of September at 7.30pm
Dear Friend of the SSPR,
I hope you are well and had an enjoyable summer break. Our trustees are delighted to launch a truly excellent programme of speakers for this year, which really underlines the excellent value of an SSPR Membership. Yet again, we have kept our annual subscription at £20 but if you can pay more, we really appreciate it. Follow the link https://thesspr.com/membership/ to join- and make sure you fill in a form and pay! Both steps please!
But of course, if you just want to pay £5 for each talk instead of joining, then that’s fine! Check our website for details or pay on the door.
The New Programme
This year we have three Professors (Owen Davies, Caroline Watt & Richard Wiseman) and one Associate Professor (Cal Cooper) speaking on topics ranging from paranormal phenomena from a historical perspective to the importance and contribution of parapsychology to science. We have a Cryptozoologist (Richard Freeman) from the Fortean Centre for Cryptozoology talking on the Highest Strangeness Cases (e.g. when bigfoot does something really odd). We have an acclaimed Spiritualist Medium (Barry Hogg) demonstrate in March and even a star of Uncanny and The Battersea Poltergeist (Evelyn Hollow) round off our year in May next year. We even have Nick & Sarah Kyle who will update us with their own psychical research since we last heard from them over 8 years ago.
It’s an excellent programme! Make sure you join us and bring a friend!
The Research / Investigation Group
Our Research Group is meeting on Sunday the 14th of September in the basement of the Glasgow Theosophical Society at 2.00pm. Make sure to join as a member, as the Research Group is only open to Members. It is a friendly and active group interested in investigating spontaneous cases, discussing approaches to paranormal investigating and initiating or examining new areas of psychical research. Amongst topics to be discussed: a potentially haunted café in The Barras. All members welcome!
Our 2025-2026 Programme begins next week, with: PROFESSOR OWEN DAVIES, talking about WHAT HISTORY CAN TEACH US ABOUT THE PARANORMAL. We’ve been expecting Professor Davies for some time now, but now, he’s very probably coming. Touch wood. Fingers crossed. Lucky Heather. (He’s President of the Folklore Society, so he’ll like this bit). He’s a leading academic on the history of hauntings, the supernatural, magic and the occult and has written so many great books on these subjects. It’s a great start to a great programme.
Enjoy!
