GCU Emergency Care Society members were invited by Glasgow Wilderness and Extreme Medicine Society to attend an introduction to wilderness medicine course held over the weekend.

There were a number of skills stations, scenarios, a night-time search and rescue exercise, radio and team communications training and even a simulated major incident.

It was also great to see the multidisciplinary teamwork with medical students, nursing students and paramedic students all working together, using their own specialist knowledge to deliver high-quality patient-centred care in an austere environment.

So far we have covered a total of 34.14km as a team plus some competition on the leader board for those awesome prizes.

Pippa and Thistle have kicked off our month of fundraising for TASC The Ambulance Staff Charity where GCU Emergency Care Society members and GCU Paramedic Science students are walking and running as far as they can for the next month.

For Emergancy Care Society members we have been donated some amazing prizes for whoever has walked or ran the furthest by the end of each week in March. For more details and how to sign up check out the members Facebook group.

The weeks prize, for the member with the highest number of kilometres logged, will be a free place on a 2 day outdoor first aid course donated by Wild and Beyond Medical
