Galashiels Academy

Galashiels Academy Galashiels Academy is a Scottish secondary school serving Galashiels and the local community. Values, skills and qualifications to be the best we can be.

In Galashiels Academy we believe in ambition and aspiration and working in partnership to produce excellent young people. Our students leave our school with the attributes, skills and qualifications to become outstanding individuals and enhance the communities they will live in and serve. My aim is for all our young people to have pride and ambition in themselves and in our school. We have high ex

pectations of all in our school which we aim to be a place where all pupils and staff feel valued and can learn and achieve. Our school provides excellent levels of support, high levels of learning and teaching, a wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities and experiences and a varied and accessible curriculum. Of our students we expect very high levels of attendance and punctuality and a pride in wearing our school uniform which represents identity and equality. In classes we encourage all our students to be ambitious and to always give of their best in everything they do. We also want our students to believe that making mistakes is part of learning and essential to making progress. I believe strongly in partnership and working together in trust and openness. To parents we ask that you continue to support your children at home and keep in touch with the school. To the local community we would also welcome any support as we develop our young people and deliver a wide and varied curriculum. We value your feedback. If you have a suggestion or if you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do everything we can to help. You can also keep up to date by following our Facebook and Twitter pages. Thank you

Everyone at Galashiels Academy would like to congratulate Douglas Ormston on receiving the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Kingโ€™s Birthday Honours.

This is a thoroughly deserved recognition of Douglasโ€™s dedication to improving the lives of young people and their families across our community. Through his leadership of TD1 Youth Hub, he has built an outstanding partnership with Galashiels Academy that continues to make a real difference to so many of our young people.

We are incredibly proud of Douglas, his professionalism and his commitment to supporting others, and we look forward to our partnership continuing for many years to come.

Congratulations, Douglas, on this well-deserved honour. ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ

Everyone at TD1 Youth Hub is delighted that our Chief Executive, Douglas Ormston, has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Kings Birthday Honours for services to youth work.

Commenting on the award, Peter Croan, Chair of TD1 Youth Hub, said:

"We are all filled with immense pride for Douglas. Since leading TD1 Youth Hub from its inception over 13 years ago, he has grown the organisation from a small team supporting around 30 young people to a thriving charity that now reaches more than 350 young people each year.

His vision, dedication and unwavering commitment have helped transform countless lives and created opportunities for young people across the Scottish Borders. Whether supporting vulnerable families during the pandemic, championing youth mental health and wellbeing, tackling issues affecting young people, or ensuring that no young person is left behind, Douglas has consistently gone above and beyond in service to others.

Douglas is a very humble man whose approach to life and work is best summed up by the phrase โ€˜Service Above Selfโ€™. This award is fitting recognition of his tireless efforts, inspirational leadership and passion for helping young people achieve their full potential."

The Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and young people of TD1 Youth Hub extend their warmest congratulations to Douglas on this well-deserved honour.

Congratulations Douglas โ€“ a truly deserving recipient of the British Empire Medal.๐ŸŽ–๏ธ

๐ŸŽ‰ What a Day at Galashiels Academy! ๐ŸŽ‰

A huge thank you to everyone who came along to our Open Day and Auction today. It was fantastic to welcome so many members of our community through our doors and to share all that makes Galashiels Academy such a special place. ๐Ÿ’™

The event was a wonderful celebration of our school and the strong sense of community that surrounds it.

๐Ÿ‘ Special thanks go to:

๐Ÿซ Our amazing pupils, who confidently and enthusiastically led tours of the campus and showcased our school with pride.

๐ŸŽถ The Town Band, whose music provided a fantastic atmosphere as visitors explored the school.

๐Ÿค Our Parent Council, who worked tirelessly alongside the school to organise, promote and deliver such a successful event. Their commitment and hard work were instrumental in making the day possible.

๐Ÿ‘‹ Former Depute Head Teacher Malcolm Changleng, who generously returned to support us throughout the auction process.

๐ŸŽ All of our school staff, whose efforts behind the scenes and throughout the day helped bring everything together so successfully.

๐Ÿ”จ And a very special thank you to Iain Dick, auctioneer from St Boswells, who kindly volunteered his time and expertise to support the school and make the auction such a success.

We are delighted to share that we raised over ยฃ3,000 on the day! ๐ŸŽ‰ Every penny will go directly into our School Equity Fund, helping us provide additional support and opportunities for young people across our school community.

Days like today remind us of what can be achieved when a community comes together. There was a real sense of pride, connection and belonging throughout the day, and we are incredibly grateful for the support shown by so many people.

What a fantastic start to our P7 Transition Programme! ๐ŸŒŸ

It was great to welcome our P7 pupils today as they took their first steps towards the next stage of their school journey. From meeting staff and making new friends to exploring their new surroundings and getting involved in activities, there was plenty of excitement and enthusiasm throughout the day.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back tomorrow for Day 2!

It was also great to meet many parents and carers this evening for the information session.
