West Lindsey District Council

West Lindsey District Council This is the official West Lindsey District Council WLDC Facebook for local news, travel and events. This page is not monitored 24/7.

Over the past few weeks, we have noticed that some of our posts on our page have attracted comments that have caused upset among some of our followers. In response, we have put in place a procedure that could see people blocked from our channels. This means that they will no longer be able to like or comment on our page. Across all of our platforms, we reserve the right to remove comments

and block users if we feel they offend, intimidate or deliberately provoke other people. We want our platforms to be community forums in-which residents can express their opinions without fear of being intimidated, attacked or shut-down. Where any individual tips the balance and posts anything that is hate speech – this is defined as anything public that expresses hate or encourages violence towards a person or group based on something such as race, religion, age, s*x, nationality, ethnicity, disability, or s*xual orientation – or that person posts anything that threatens, incites, or encourages hatred or violence in any way, we may seek guidance from the police and take action in the same way we would as if this had happened on the street. Be aware of what you post, be mindful of how others may receive it, and, above all, be respectful and kind. As a Council page, we try to provide communications that we feel will help and support our residents and our communities the most – and are always open to how we can improve our messaging further. If you've been blocked and wish to appeal or complain about the service you have received, visit https://www.west-lindsey.gov.uk/council-democracy/have-your-say/comments-compliments-complaints

A big thank you to everyone who regularly posts and engages respectfully on all our platforms.

🪜 Converting your loft? Make sure you do it right!

👷‍♀️ Many homeowners are now looking for more space in their homes, and converting the area within the roof of your property can be a great way to create extra living space.

❌ Many are unaware that this type of work needs building control approval and, in some cases, the planning department may also need to be contacted.

🤝 West Lindsey District Council’s Building Control Team are able to support homeowners who are considering converting their loft space.

🗣️ Phillip Westmorland, Building Control Team Manager at the council said: “The first question a homeowner should ask when looking into an idea such as this is, ‘is my loft suitable for this type of works?’

🗣️“It is necessary to ensure that there is sufficient space in your loft to stand comfortably, ideally you will need a 2m headroom with plenty of floor space. Many roofs will also need strengthening work with additional timbers or beams being necessary.

🗣️“It is always recommended that you seek an industry professional to undertake any works to your home to make sure it complies with all the safety requirements, especially with a loft conversion as there are specific fire safety rules that apply to three storey dwellings.”

☎️ If you are considering having building work carried out and you are unsure if it will require building regulations consent, please feel free to get in touch with West Lindsey Building Control on 01427 676 672 or [email protected] and we will be happy to advise you.

🖥️For advice on how to get started with planning your loft conversion, visit LABC’s dedicated website for homeowners at: https://labcfrontdoor.co.uk/projects?p=Loft+conversion
