20TH ANNIVERSARY COMMAND DINNER

Alongside parades and events to mark the 20th anniversary of the Royal Yorkshire Regiment, our reserve officers and NCOs came together at the 4th Battalion command dinner. It was an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the achievements of the regiment in its time so far. Complete with good food and speeches, the evening was filled with county pride - our reservists, who hail predominantly from Yorkshire, turned out smart and in high spirits to embrace the occasion.

Events like this are just part of what is on offer at Yorkshire's Reserve Infantry. We get paid train as soldiers in our spare time. Do you want to be part of your county's local regiment? See our bio or search for '4 Royal Yorks'.

Battlecamp? Completed it βœ…

πŸ’‚β€β™‚οΈ This week, we say well done to 8 soldiers returning to us after successfully finishing their Phase 1 training. Their two-week course in Grantham is the culmination of their basic training as reserve soldiers, testing all their learnt skills so far. It ends with a parade, in front of friends and family, marking their 'passing-out' from their training.

πŸ’ͺ Passing-out marks a transition for our troops in their journey as reservists - their efforts so far have been rewarded. Now, their attention turns to their career within the Royal Yorkshire Regiment. As infanteers, they will continue to develop their soldiering skills as they head to ITC Catterick, where they will be further pushed and tested in the 2-week reserve CIC course.

πŸ† Congratulations to Pte Dobbs, who won a coveted award as best soldier - for the duration of the 2-week course, his abilities and determination set him above his course peers.

L-R: WO2 (CSM) Thompson, Pte Dobbs, Pte Cockayne, Pte Nicholson, Pte Peasgood, Pte Frost, Pte Rooke, Pte Cammish, Pte Firth, Maj Kennedy.

🀝 WELCOME TO 4 ROYAL YORKS 🀝

βš”οΈ We've recently welcomed some new additions to Yorkshire's Reserve Infantry. These troops begin their journey as part-time soldiers; ahead of them awaits an exciting career that promises new skills and opportunities. For some of the new recruits, this will be completely new, and their future reserve career will begin with basic training to build a strong foundation of soldiering skills which will set them up for success. Others have come to us after an already successful career elsewhere in the forces, and will continue to serve in new ways with us at 4th Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment.

πŸ“– Read about two of these new members of the family:

SGT BURNS - joins us after an already impressive career in the regular army. As a WO1 with the Royal Regiment of Scotland, he reached the pinnacle of his career as a senior soldier. Now in the civilian world, his day job sees him working in environmental risk reduction. He is bound to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the battalion.

PTE SAVILLE - has recently attested into Burma Company, and will now go through reserve basic training. Over the next training year, he will develop as a soldier, through a combination of a 1-week course and two 2-week courses, as well as in house training on our weekly drill nights. The end of this process will see Pte Saville fully specialised as an infanteer, and ready to take part in all that Yorkshire's Reserve Infantry has to offer.

πŸ”¨ THE COMMAND POST πŸ”¨

Where decisions are made. But in recent history, Command Posts (CP) have seen a shift towards a more hidden - more deceptive - setup.

Modern warfare dictates that even the most basic of operations are likely to be observed by the enemy. As such, our training must incorporate camouflage and concealment, so that our troops are familiar with the fundamentals of masking their actions whilst on exercise.

On Ex URBAN TEMPEST, the CIS elements of Yorkshire's Reserve Infantry established a concealed CP. This CP was set up in tactical conditions amongst a friendly occupied woodblock. As such, the wider command elements present on the exercise were able to operate from a secure location, providing informed guidance to fighting troops on the ground.

As reservists, our troops take part in exciting training like this in their spare time, as part of the reservists training syllabus. See our bio or search for '4 Royal Yorks' to be a part of this!

Ex URBAN TEMPEST πŸ’₯

🏠 From lone buildings in the countryside to suburb city streets, proficiency in CQB and urban warfighting skills determines success. It's a complex and fast-paced environment which requires regular practice to ensure confidence in all the drills and techniques. This is why we focus training exercises specifically to learn and master the art of fighting in built up areas.

This month, during Exercise URBAN TEMPEST, our reservists took to Warcop Training Area, deploying on Friday evening to conduct urban training. Starting with the basics, troops learnt individual and section CQB drills - clearing rooms and moving through potentially dangerous indoor areas. Training culminated in a final attack - the result of this weekend and previous training combined. Our troops successfully enacted a tactical approach to the building, before breaking into, and clearing it of all enemy forces inside.

At Yorkshire's Reserve Infantry, we train in our spare time to learn and master infantry skills. What's more, we get paid for everything we do. Learn more in our bio or by searching for '4 Royal Yorks'.

MAN DOWN!

βœ”οΈ Practicing for the worst case means we're ready if it happens for real. Casualties during a firefight add complexity to the situation, but with regular training, the correct drills can be learnt and maintained, ensuring efficiency on the battlefield.

πŸš‘ On Ex RURAL STRIKE, our troops from Yorkshire's Reserve Infantry ran through multiple casualty scenarios during their monthly battalion exercise. On taking a casualty, only immediate life-saving care under fire (CUF) drills are performed, ensuring the focus is kept on winning the firefight. This might involve applying a tourniquet whilst communicating basic casualty details. Only after the situation becomes safe can the attention be switched to the casualty - this is when further medical treatment can be given, as well as sending full details up the chain of command. Now, the medical team can begin preparation to receive the casualty, and the process of removing them from the battlefield (Medevac) can begin. This culminates with the full handover and safe withdrawal of injured personnel.

Practicing the full process of treating and evacuating casualties makes up just part of the training that our reservists undertake in their spare time. What's more, they get paid for everything they do. Find out more in our bio, or by searching for '4 Royal Yorks'.

πŸͺ“ Ex RURAL STRIKE πŸͺ“

The latest battalion exercise at Yorkshire's Reserve Infantry saw our reservists, joined by officer cadets from Leeds UOTC, take on tactical operations in the rural setting, as well as a testing CPX (Command Post Exercise) at company level.

🏞️ Rural ops form the foundations for how the British Army functions in many ways, and as a light infantry reserve unit, this is how we may be required to fight on operations. Mastering the basics in training sets us up for success going forwards. On this weekend, troops practice section attacks and undertook advances to contact at the training area in Catterick. Fighting troops and the command post elements alike were tested through communication and reports using R2 slate cards, and casevac procedures were practiced, with casualty handovers Battlefield Ambulances, along with all the relevant information recorded.

At 4th Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment, our soldiers spend their spare time learning and mastering infantry skills. Want to learn more? See our bio or search for '4 Royal Yorks'
