On Thursday Scottish Green Party ran on a manifesto of hope, and Yesterday the people of Scotland responded by delivering a record number of Green MSPs to Holyrood.

In our region, we doubled the number of MSPs, with a record result. In Edinburgh and Glasgow, we elected our first and second ever constituency MSPs, and in regions all across the country, we elected Greens, meaning that every resident, in every single corner of our nation, there is a Green MSP there to help us demand better.

It's thanks to tireless volunteers and activists who give up their time to knock on doors, leaflet, donate, have over dinner conversations, and importantly vote that make these moments possible.

The hard work starts now for our 15 Green MSPs to deliver a fairer, greener future we all deserve.

It is with tremendous regret that we have lost our old comrade Conal R.C. Smith.

Conal was a stalwart of the labour movement in Moray. He was a Labour Party activist and active trade unionist for close to sixty years, and a friend to some of our members going back to school days.

Conal previously represented Bishopmill on Moray District Council – having been elected in the 1980s as one of the first ever Labour councillors in Moray. As our candidate in the 1987 and 1992 he spurred the growth of the Labour Party as a force in Moray, which endures to this day.

For many years he was the Chair of Moray Trades Union Council, and as chair helped launch many of the campaigns that are still being fought – including the MUM and Elgin bypass campaigns.

He was one of Elgin's best known teachers, and an inspiration to many of us.
