This weekend members of 124 Sqn 71 Engr Regt took part in their recent Sub Unit Weekend.

This weekend was held at Kinloss Bks for a weekend of Bridging and doing what we as Engineers do best. This consisted of a section being trained to build a 5 bay Medium Girder Over Bridge.(MGOB) Which they successfully completed the task. A great weekend of training had by all more than that a great opportunity for some team building.

Whilst personnel from 124 Sqn are deployed on Op Tosca, remaining soldiers have been continuing to further their training with various weekend activities & develop themselves by attending courses to further their careers.

Recently, a few members attended a course to gain qualifications that allow them to plan & conduct exercises that use blank fire & pyrotechnics as well as get qualified as coaching & safety staff on live fire ranges. These qualifications help in continuing to deliver training to troops on the ground.

A recent weekend at Kinloss saw troops deploy on the ground for section competitions. This involved setting up a harbour area, CBRN drills & also included a section attack on an enemy compound.

Members from 124 Sqn spent the weekend taking part in some Water Filtration training, which allows them to extract water from any source & purify it so it is safe for drinking.

Members got hands on to set up the equipment & see how quickly & easily it is to deploy, ensuring that ground troops are never without clean, safe water.

This is a great example of the sort of things that can be achieved as a Royal Engineer & how vast the range of skills are that you can learn.

Over the last few weeks, members of 236 Troop (part of 124 Field Support Squardon), have been taking part in lots of exciting training scenarios at various locations throughout Scotland such as Gairlochhead & Barry Buddon training areas.

This has included survival skills such as cooking in the field whilst evading enemy capture, minefield clearance, section attacks & battlefield first aid.

Training such as this allows members to practise their skills as well as learning new ones, as well as allowing them the opportunity to experience working in ways that you don’t find in your usual 9-5 job.

Not only is this training great for learning new skills & challenging yourself, it’s also a fantastic way to keep you fit & make new friends!

Are you interested in learning more & seeing how these skills can make a difference to you, your civilian employment & your community?
