New Universal Credit rules from today!
It is now possible to include all children in your household in your award (previously there was a two child limit).
If you have three or more children, you may become entitled to the benefit for the first time, or if you are on universal credit already you may be due an increase (although this may not apply if you are subject to the benefit cap or have transitional protection in your award).

The rules for universal credit are changing from 6 April 2026 so that it is possible to include all children in your household in your award (previously there was a two child limit).

Families who qualify for free school meals based on financial criteria will receive a single payment of £26 per eligible child to cover the spring holiday period from Monday 6 April 2026 to Friday 17 April 2026 (£2.60 x 10 days).

👉 Please note, due to bank holidays the payment will be in bank accounts on or around Tuesday 7 April 2026 (not Friday 3 April).

You’ll receive a payment if you have a child currently in:
- P1-P5 who is in receipt of school clothing grant.
- P6- S6 who is in receipt of free school meals during term time.

Running Low on Energy Credit? You Could Get Up to £294 in Support

Do you or someone you know have a Pre-Payment Meter? Are you/they struggling to top it up?

You might be eligible for help if:

Do you live in a rural property and rely on oil or LPG for heating or hot water? You might be eligible for financial help.

The Scottish Government’s Emergency Heating Oil Scheme is a new fund which helps people on lower incomes pay for heating oil or LPG. The fund opened on the 1 April and if eligible you could get £300 to help with the rising oil prices.

If you get a means-tested benefit or you are in financial hardship and have additional vulnerabilities, you may be able to get support.
