Last year sewage overspilled into Bedfordshire's rivers for over 10,000 hours!

This comes as Mid Bed's Conservative MP, Nadine Dorries, has refused to protect our local environment, voting to block a law that would have prevented the dumping of untreated sewage into our rivers.

Enough is enough. Conservative MPs must stand up against sewage dumping!

Daisy Cooper MP has written to Thameslink to urge them to "join TFL in requiring passengers to wear a face covering as a condition of carriage, to protect themselves and those around them, and to keep our country moving."

Great to have an MP who will work with and challenge Thameslink to ensure all those using the line are effectively represented!

I asked Thameslink last week if they were going to join TFL and make face coverings a condition of carriage. They said no. So I wrote formally on Monday to ask them to reconsider. Hereโ€™s the letter ๐Ÿ‘‡

Friday 18th June Today's amazing result in nearby Amersham and Chesham shows just how vulnerable the Conservatives can be in Southern Counties against a concerted, community lead positive campaign. There is no reason why this cannot be Central Bedfordshire with Flitwick leading the way. Sarah Green wiped out a 16000 majority for the Conservatives. With a largely absent MP, Nadine Dorries, whose home is in Gloucestershire we have to seize our chance so watch out for further action in Flitwick.

With only 4 days until the election, here's a remind of our key commitments for a positive, accessible and community-driven future for our town:

๐Ÿš‰ Step-free access for Flitwick station, to ensure we are an accessible society where all people in our community can travel for work or leisure.

๐Ÿก We urgently need a community-led consultation and plan facilitated by the Town Council to tell decision makers what the residents need for all future housing and infrastructure developments.

๐Ÿ‘ต Develop local strategies to address loneliness and support the elderly in an increasingly modern society.

๐Ÿš— Campaign for improved roads and to fix the constant potholes.

๐ŸŒณ Promoting our variety of local environments and wildlife, such as Flitwick Moor, to create educational and leisure opportunities. Encouraging schools to utilise their surroundings in safeguarding health and welfare of younger people.

๐Ÿ“ข Be an effective voice for the local community, ensuring residents can engage with the council and providing many opportunities to hear your views.

As well as seeking to drive a positive future for Flitwick, we're keen to build a team across Central Bedfordshire who can work together and support local communities.

Although nominally retired John has retained an active interest and engagement in social and community enterprise across Britain and Europe, and is keen to use these experiences to support our local community.

He is a Trustee and Director of a large Childrenโ€™s and families Charity in Birmingham, Trustee of the Local Urban Development and European Network and a member of a German based study group alongside 6 other European partners looking at and comparing the impact of Covid on Child and Family Health.

John is a qualified Social Worker and has held senior management positions in Social Care in both Local Authority and national Agencies. In later years he also established his own โ€˜Not for Profitโ€™ enterprise aimed at promoting partnerships and collaboration between voluntary, public authority and private sector organisations committed to alleviating poverty and discrimination within some of the most deprived communities in Britain.

John is committed to grass roots engagement to achieve change and development. He has served as both a District and Parish Councillor in the West Midlands where he established his original family home.

As part of this commitment he purchased a local Village Post office and developed it into a 24 hour, 7 day Social and Community advice centre before being invited by the Rural Development Commission to establish an advisory service for all village shops across England.
