If you want to report a concern about the condition of the roads in your local area, simply download the “Love Clean Streets” app and submit the issue there. You will receive a reporting reference number and regular updates on the progress of your report.

You can also raise your concern through your local Town Councillor, who will then pass it on to the Borough Councillor for further action. An update will then be fed back to you once the matter has been reviewed.

Since it’s the season of giving, I want to highlight a charity I’ve always been proud to support: Kindness Counts UK, led by a remarkable lady and my dear friend, Michelle Carter. Every year, this charity provides free presents to schools, community groups, and individuals, spreading joy across our local communities.

Michelle and her dedicated team do incredible work, delivering a strong support network that makes a genuinely positive impact. Based in Cleveleys, they also offer a wonderful space focused on positive wellness and community support.

Please join me in celebrating Michelle and her amazing team for everything they continue to do for our communities.
Kindness Counts UK — thank you for making a difference.

Pay them a visit and support the work they do for our local communities.

Today I sat with a Ukrainian veteran who has been struggling with his mental health. Despite being referred to specialists and offered medication many times, nothing gave him the help he truly needed. But after an hour of simply talking and listening, he said he finally felt relieved and at peace.

Sometimes what people need isn’t a specialist, just need someone who listens, understands, and helps them find a coping path that works for them. Our minds can only hold so much, and slowly rebuilding our wellbeing starts with connection, support, and community.

For many veterans living with PTSD or mental health challenges, there may never be a complete cure, but there is a way forward: finding genuine support, engaging with the community, and rebuilding step by step.

To all veterans of every nationality living in our area, you are valued. Please join our veteran groups, get involved with our organisations, fundraise with us, build your network, and be part of our community. Your story matters. Your service matters.

Someone asked me… What does my role as an Armed Forces Champion do…

An Armed Forces Champion serves as a key advocate and support point for current and former military personnel, their families, and the wider armed forces community within an organisation or local area. The role focuses on promoting understanding, coordinating support, and ensuring that the needs of serving members, veterans, and their families are recognised and addressed across areas such as employment, healthcare, welfare, and policy.

Key Responsibilities:

• Advocacy and Representation: Championing the interests of the armed forces community and ensuring their voices are heard at strategic and decision-making levels.

• Support Coordination: Helping service personnel, veterans, and their families access appropriate support, working closely with partner agencies, charities, and service providers.

• Policy and Strategy: Supporting the development and delivery of policies and strategies that uphold the Armed Forces Covenant and embed armed forces considerations into broader organisational or community plans.

• Awareness and Engagement: Raising awareness of the contributions made by service members and veterans, building stronger relationships, and supporting their transition and integration into civilian life.

• Role Modelling and Guidance: Acting as a positive role model and approachable point of contact, offering a listening ear for colleagues, reservists, and veterans who may need advice or support.

• Organisational Support: Assisting the organisation in achieving and maintaining accreditations such as the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme, and promoting best practice.

• Training and Development: Undertaking relevant training to strengthen understanding of the armed forces community and to provide informed guidance and support.

Being a community volunteer has always been an honourable duty for me. In all the times I’ve gone out to do good, I’ve met people who appreciate the work and even join me on the ground to get things done and I’ve also crossed paths with those who dislike what I do. That’s all part of the journey.

Working alongside our Councillors and the members of Fleetwood Town Council has always been promising and fulfilling. All of us Councillors are essentially volunteers; we don’t get paid for the work we do for our town and our constituents. But I can honestly say that serving the community is something I truly enjoy.

People often ask me why I do what I do. My answer is simple: I came to this country to serve in the Forces, and I proudly completed 24 years of service. Now, as a veteran, I am honoured to continue serving this country in a different way to show my appreciation for the life I’ve had, and the life I have now.

It’s hard to believe it’s been almost five years since I first stood for the local elections. My first attempt was under the banner of Wyre Alliance. I wasn’t successful, but the privilege of standing, and hearing my name called out with the number of votes at the local elections office, was an incredible moment I’ll never forget.

The second time, I stood as an independent candidate. By then, I had already been heavily involved in volunteering and supporting our local community — work that ultimately led to my victory as Councillor for Mount Ward in Fleetwood, as well as becoming the Armed Forces Champion.

I never imagined I’d become a local politician, but supporting people, listening to their concerns, and making a difference in the community has always been my priority. We must lead by example and work together to build stability and strengthen our community spirit.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. There have been challenges, both publicly and privately, but there is always a positive outcome to be found and together, we keep moving forward.

Over the years, so much has happened on my journey, yet none of it has stopped me from being the person I strive to be. I will always do my best to help others. Along the way, I’ve had many positive outcomes, but I’ve also made decisions that led to challenges and setbacks. That’s life — a mix of highs and lows that shape us.

These past few years have been especially meaningful: receiving awards, earning my degree, raising funds for a memorial bench, organising community events, and one of the greatest honours of all — meeting HRH King Charles III.

Every step, whether positive or difficult, has built me into who I am today, and I’m grateful for the journey.

I proudly serve as the Armed Forces Champion for Fleetwood Town Council and Chair of the Royal British Legion, Fleetwood Branch. As the Lead Liaison for Commonwealth Veterans in Lancashire, I work closely with our veteran community to ensure their voices are heard and their needs supported. I also volunteer with various organisations, always striving to make a positive difference and help create a better future for those around me.
