⚽Year 7 Girls House Football⚽

The year 7 girls managed to catch up with their weather delayed match yesterday lunchtime, and they were the last of our girls matches. The weather played ball this time and there was even some sunshine. They had the best attendance of all year groups and great support. There were some suspect Nile team numbers, which Mr Hudson said were fine (Head of Nile house... coincidence?). Mr Hudson was also spotted joining in with the Nile team. Fair? Opinions were divided!

Standings were as follows:

Joint 1st Pacific / Sahara / Everest (as they couldn't be split by goals scored or head to head) - 100 house points
4th Nile - 25 house points (poor Mr Hudson!)

Congratulations to Pacific, Sahara, and Everest house! 👏

During the next few weeks we are showcasing our Academic Student Leaders. These are students that have applied for an academic leadership role to support a particular department to gain further subject experience, to contribute to activities and clubs, to help with resources, and complete other jobs within the department. Student leaders gain a subject specific badge.

This week we are showcasing our Philosophy & Religious Education (PRE) student leaders. They have been updating the PRE display board to catch pupils eyes as they head to lesson, to inform them of what PRE is all about. They will be taking on some bigger projects in the next few weeks, looking at pupil voice surveys.

Well done to our student leaders for their upstanding contribution and help with our departments!

Our year 10 students took on their Duke of Edinburgh assessed hike in the New Forest this weekend.

Spirits were high as they set off, despite the forecast... and the weather didn’t disappoint. Torrential rain and strong winds made for truly awful conditions, but resilience shone through as teams navigated, adapted, and kept going. Map reading and teamwork were put to the ultimate test. Plenty of soggy socks, muddy boots, and determined faces along the way.

A huge well done to all involved — you should be very proud. The sun may not have shone, but your effort certainly did!

Our year 11 students attended their final History revision session yesterday.

The revision session was a final push on paper three, recapping key content and brushing up those all-important exam skills. From tackling sources to building strong answers, lots of hard work all round!

Staff are really proud of the effort and positivity - students, keep it going, you’ve got this! The History department will miss you year 11, you have been a pleasure to teach!

Well done to Patrick E and Jake B in year 9 who won the Junior Premier League with the Bracknell Town football team last weekend. This makes them the best U14 football team in the country! Jake was also voted the best player at the tournament.

We look forward to hearing more amazing football news from Patrick and Jake.

We held another of our seasonal staff computer wallpaper competitions for students during May with the theme of summer. Entries were judged by a staff panel last Friday.

Students were asked to submit designs in any form e.g. digital, hardcopy, photos, but they ideally needed to be in a landscape aspect ratio for display on a staff computer and suitable as a background. Extra merit was given to any that could include Court Moor in some way.

Our winner is Sophie R in year 8, with her drawing incorporating students, pictured below. Our other runner up submissions are also shown below. Along with the winner receiving a £20 prize, all entrants have received a house point, and will have their pictures shown on staff computers across the school during the remainder of the term.

We will run the autumn competition as EduLink One homework during July and the summer holidays, with a deadline during the first week of term.

Our amazing students are nearing the end of their exams with only a few more days to go.

We have been thoroughly impressed with the students so far, they have conducted themselves in a very calm and sensible way.

Some students have asked what happens to the exam papers. They are collected daily by Parcelforce. AQA, the biggest of the exam boards, has put together the following fascinating video to explain what happens after that

Some of our girls in year 9 attended a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) event at Fluor in Farnborough.

The intention was to encourage girls to consider a career in STEM, and look at the many career opportunities available. There were so many engaging activities, which the girls enthusiastically participated in. The first activity may have initially seemed basic, but it was interesting to see the different interpretations of following instructions to draw shapes, without consulting each other. This was followed by seeing images using a virtual reality headset. Employees from BAE systems guided us to imagine being in a submarine, and managing to sleep and eat in very confined spaces using the images. The use of the headset made it very up close and personal. Students used models to demonstrate how pressure would affect upthrust. They also had to calculate how many sausages would be cooked if there were 1,000 crew members in the submarine for 90 days (each person having 2 sausages)! Some of the students had their blood pressure taken for the first time. They all learned how a blood pressure monitor uses blood vessels to give a reading, showing systole and diastole figures. Some fancy bracelets were made using wires, wire cutters and auxiliary plugs. This was a fun way of showing how an engineer would replace wires by hand and not using high technology. Communication and teamwork were tested during the navigation of a robocar and building a support that could hold an unopened can of beans. The students came away with pile of 'freebies' (who doesn't love a freebie?), including seeds inside a pen! The pen can be opened to take the seeds out and plant them. What will the seeds grow into? Time will tell.

Overall it was a fantastic day with delicious food, and it gave the girls a great insight into possibilities of a career in STEM. Thanks to Fluor for their support with this activity!
