Team Recruitment - Advance Notice!!!

We're soon going to be recruiting for new team members to join the Coastguard Rescue Team at Filey. This is a great opportunity to work on the frontline of a search and rescue team.

We're looking for people who live in and around Filey who want to make a difference to their communities, and come to the aid of those in need on our coastline. We're a team of on-call volunteers who respond to emergencies on the coast and are available to help, offering our services every hour of everyday.

No previous experience is required, and there's a full training package to give you the skills needed to fulfil this incredibly rewarding roll. You need to be willing to learn, fairly fit, keen to get stuck in and happy to get your hands dirty!

We're going to be especially keen to hear from people who have an existing interest in the coast and sea. We always welcome a good drop of local knowledge!

NORTH YORKSHIRE COUNCIL FORTNIGHTLY UPDATE ON -
ROYAL PARADE

North Yorkshire Council are continuing to progress the internal consideration of the potential
options for the future of the site. It has been agreed that these options will be presented to Full Cabinet in order to seek strategic direction and guidance on which option(s) Cabinet would be most
supportive of progressing. Once a clear direction is agreed this will be shared initially with stakeholders and thereafter publicly.

In the meantime, the Council's immediate priority is to ensure that the tenants occupying the units are kept appropriately informed throughout the process. This reflects our ongoing legal and
statutory obligations as landlord and our commitment to maintaining clear communication with those directly affected by any future decisions.

Further updates will be provided following Cabinet's consideration of the available options and once a clear direction has been established.

As previously stated, planning permission remains in place for the demolition of the existing structure. However, demolition is not currently programmed, and no date has been agreed. The building continues to be monitored, and demolition would only be brought forward if ongoing movement within the structure created concerns that made intervention necessary in the interests of public safety. At present, the kiosk units remain open and operational, although the café remains closed.

We have been made aware by Councillor Cross that the banners attached to the protective Heras fencing had become loose over the previous weekend. Thank you to Councillor Cross for securing
these. We have asked the maintenance team to attend site and review the fencing to ensure that both the fencing and banners are still secure and to identify any further works required to ensure
these will withstand the winter season. We will continue to monitor the fencing on a regular basis throughout Autumn and Winter.

Wider Project Activity
• Officers continue to work with Yorkshire Water to ensure any future proposals address the site's drainage and pumping station challenges that have exacerbated the ground stability issues.

• Any replacement facility will need to provide a resilient, sustainable solution suitable for the coastal environment.

• Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) are being explored to help reduce construction
time, minimise disruption and improve programme certainty.

Celebrating Filey's Best Kept Gardens!

The Mayor was delighted to attend the Filey in Bloom Best Kept Gardens Presentation on 6 October, recognising the fantastic efforts of residents, businesses and community groups who help make Filey such a colourful and welcoming place to live and visit.

It was wonderful to see just how many people entered this year's competition, with a wide range of categories showcasing gardening talents across our town. The photographs attached are just a small selection of the many deserving winners and beautifully maintained gardens that were celebrated on the evening.

A huge congratulations to all of the winners and entrants whose hard work, creativity and dedication help brighten our community.

👏 Most importantly, we'd like to say a big thank you to the volunteers of Filey in Bloom for organising another successful event. Their dedication, enthusiasm and countless hours of work continue to make a real difference to our town and are greatly appreciated by residents and visitors alike.

Some sad and disappointing news this morning from Northern Rail.

Unfortunately, following another incident of extreme vandalism, the toilets at Filey Station have now been permanently closed.

Despite a number of measures being introduced over recent years to reduce vandalism and anti-social behaviour, including reduced opening hours, incidents have continued to occur. As a result, Northern's Station Manager and Station Delivery Manager have made the difficult decision to permanently close the facilities.

While this news will be disappointing for many passengers and visitors, the continued vandalism has left Northern with no sustainable way to keep the toilets open and maintained.

A disappointing outcome for the community, but one that highlights the impact that repeated acts of vandalism can have on public facilities.

Royal Parade, Filey - Project Update

Since update 14, internal high-level reviews have taken place within the Council to review the status of the project and to consider the potential options for the future of the site.

The Council is now progressing work to identify the most appropriate replacement solution for the site.
The options currently being developed will be presented corporately and to members for consideration and agreement on a preferred way forward.
Following consideration of the available options and agreement to progress, officers will present the proposals to stakeholders to
obtain feedback and ensure local views are considered as the project develops.

Alongside this, officers will continue direct engagement with existing tenants to better understand their operational requirements, concerns and aspirations for any replacement facility. This engagement is an important part of the project and will help inform future design development

Officers remain very aware of the ongoing concerns relating to the Yorkshire Water pumping station located within the site area.
We continue to engage directly with Yorkshire Water to better
understand the issues and explore how these can be addressed as part of any future proposals. As previously noted, the pumping station is owned, operated and maintained by Yorkshire Water, and
responsibility for its operation and maintenance therefore rests with them.
