5.5 million people in the UK have high blood pressure and have no idea.

It is the single biggest risk factor for cardiovascular disease — heart attack and stroke — and it almost never gives you symptoms to go on. The only way to know is to measure it.

If you are 40 or over and not being checked at your practice, you can have it done free on the NHS at any of our pharmacies. It takes minutes.

If the reading comes back raised, we will lend you a monitor to wear for 24 hours, so the decision gets made on a full picture rather than one number on one morning.

Also free if you are 35–39 and have not been checked recently, if you are under 40 with a family history, or if your GP has asked you to come in.

If your ear has been blocked for weeks, you don't have to put up with it.

Microsuction uses a microscope and gentle low-pressure suction to lift the wax out. No water, no syringing. Most people notice the difference the same day.

It's also the safer option if you've had a perforated eardrum, ear surgery, a middle ear infection in the last two months, or discharge from the ear.

One thing that makes a real difference: use olive oil drops or Earol spray for 5 days before you come in. Softer wax comes out far more easily.

Doing it on your own is the hardest way to do it.

Our Pharmacists' run weight loss clinic's to help you get started and keep you on track, and they start with a proper assessment rather than a guess: your measurements, your health history, what you've already tried and what got in the way.

Then reviews with the same team, so there's someone who knows your history, and someone to tell when it stalls.

Sometimes the honest answer is that this isn't the right route for you. You'll be told that too.

Every consultation is with a GPhC-registered Pharmacist, in a private room.

The most important thing a pharmacist does today, nobody will ever find out about.

It'll be a prescription that didn't look quite right, and a phone call to a surgery to check. A dose that was wrong for someone's kidney function. A symptom mentioned in passing at the counter that turned out to be worth taking seriously. Someone who went home actually understanding their medication instead of guessing at it.

None of that gets noticed. That's rather the point.

Today is World Pharmacists Day, and we want to say thank you to our own teams across all 17 branches, and to every Pharmacist out there: in community pharmacy, in hospitals, in GP surgeries, in care homes, in research and in teaching. And to the technicians, dispensers, counter assistants and drivers alongside them, because no Pharmacist has ever done this job on their own.

Happy World Pharmacists Day. 💚
