Safety Alert: Staying Safe When Using Cash Machines

Dorset police are sharing advice as a preventative reminder to help everyone stay safe when using ATMs and cash machines.

Recent Events:

A recent local report involved a customer whose card was not immediately returned by a cash machine. After leaving the machine to seek assistance, the card was later found to be missing and was reportedly used shortly afterwards. This serves as a useful reminder to remain vigilant and contact your bank immediately if your card is retained.

TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF STAPEHILL ROAD, HAMPRESTON

DORSET COUNCIL has issued a Notice under Section 14 [2] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984 as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along Stapehill Road, Hampreston between Ham Lane and Pompeys Lane, a distance of approximately 830 metres. The Notice is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation between 09:30 - 15:30 on 7th September 2026 and remain in force for five days, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 9th September 2026.

This Notice will enable Openreach safe access to carry out pole and cable replacement works in the highway.
A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed section.

Poppy Launch Day - Sat 24th Oct, 10:00-12:00
The Barrington Centre, Pennys Walk, Ferndown, BH22 9TH
The launch of the annual Poppy Appeal, raising awareness and support within the local community. The morning's proceedings will consist of a parade, speeches from guests, the unveiling of our poppy display before watching Bournemouth Youth Marching Band perform in concert for free.

Remembrance Day Parade & Service - Sun 8th Nov, 14:00-16:30
Peter Grant Way & Church Road, Ferndown, BH22 9EN
A formal parade bringing together uniformed organisations, veterans, and community groups. Marching off from the King George V Pavilion, Peter Grant Way to St Mary’s Church. Followed by a remembrance service in the Church before the Mayor of Ferndown takes the salute at the Royal British Legion before returning to the Pavilion for dismissal.

Armistice Day- Weds 11th Nov, 10:45

A commemorative service held to mark the signing of the Armistice, including a period of silence and wreath laying.

Don't lose your vote

Residents in the Dorset Council area are being urged to check their voter registration details or risk losing their chance to vote in any forthcoming elections.

Known as the annual canvass, the regular event enables Dorset Council to keep its electoral register up to date, to identify who risks missing the opportunity to vote and to encourage people to register before it’s too late.

It will come into operation on 7th September 2026 and remain in force for five days, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 9th September 2026.

This Notice will enable Openreach safe access to lay new duct in the highway.

A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed section.

Witness appeal following burglary in Ferndown

Officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward after a residential property was broken into in Ferndown.

Between 11.10am and 11.20am on Wednesday 19 August 2026, two offenders entered an address in Ringwood Road.

It is not believed that anything was stolen.

Police Constable Jared Braid, of East Dorset police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who saw or heard any suspicious activity in the area at the relevant time to please get in touch.

“We have been carrying out CCTV and house-to-house enquiries in the area to try and identify those responsible.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to remind residents to keep their homes secure and follow the crime prevention advice found on our website.”
