Felixstowe South and Pier has been recognised for its outstanding quality after receiving the prestigious Blue Flag Award for 2026 - marking the seventh consecutive year the town’s popular coastline has achieved the internationally recognised accolade.

The Mayor of Felixstowe, Cllr Darren Aitchison, said:

“Receiving the Blue Flag Award for Felixstowe South and Pier for the seventh consecutive year is a tremendous achievement and something our whole community can be incredibly proud of.

This internationally recognised award reflects the consistently high standards maintained across our seafront: from water quality and environmental management to safety, cleanliness and visitor facilities.

This success is only possible thanks to the dedication and hard work of so many people, including East Suffolk Council, our partners, local businesses, community groups, volunteers and residents who all play a part in caring for our coastline and helping Felixstowe remain one of the country’s finest seaside destinations.”

On Monday 1 June, at 10am, the Mayor of Felixstowe, Cllr Darren Aitchison, and the Mayor's Cadet, OC Branston Deakin, raised the Progress Pride Flag to mark the beginning of Pride Month in Felixstowe.

The Mayor of Felixstowe said:

"Thank you all for joining us today as we mark the beginning of Pride Month.

Pride Month began in remembrance of the Stonewall Riots of 1969, a moment when LGBTQ+ people stood up against discrimination and demanded the right to live freely and openly. That act of courage sparked a movement for equality that continues to this day.

As we raise the Progress Pride Flag today, we are sending a simple but powerful message: everyone in our town deserves to feel safe, valued and included.

This flag represents members of our community who have too often felt unseen or unheard. It represents our LGBTQ+ neighbours, colleagues, friends and young people. By flying it, we affirm that Felixstowe is a place where people can live openly, without fear, and with pride in who they are.

As Mayor, my responsibility is to represent all residents. Today is about standing together, showing kindness and celebrating the diversity that strengthens our town."

Fantastic news as Felixstowe's South Seafront has been awarded a Blue Flag for the seventh consecutive year.

This prestigious international award recognises excellence in bathing water quality, environmental management, accessibility, safety and visitor facilities.

We're celebrating seeing four of our beaches named among the best in the country as environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy announces winners of the Blue Flag and Seaside Awards for 2026!

Four beaches have been recognised for being clean and safe, meeting the highest environmental standards with both Felixstowe (Felixstowe South and Pier) and Southwold (Southwold Pier) once again receiving combined Seaside Awards and Blue Flags, and Lowestoft South of Claremont Pier (bathing / resort) and Kessingland (non-bathing) receiving Seaside Awards for 2026.
