In one of my final acts as Mayor, it was a real pleasure to present Kate Hayden with the Mayor’s Award.

The award was in recognition of her outstanding contribution to our community for over a decade. Kate has created far more than a successful local pub at The Snow Goose — she has created a genuine community hub. From supporting isolated residents and hosting community events, to creating welcoming spaces for families and stepping up during the pandemic to help those most in need, her kindness and commitment have touched countless lives across Rushmoor.

Through her compassion, initiative and commitment to bringing people together, Kate exemplifies the very best of community spirit in Rushmoor.

Thank you, Kate 👏

A huge thank you to the Hampshire & Surrey Hills Men’s Choir for their incredibly generous donation of £500 towards my mayoral fund, Step Beyond Alderwood.

Although our planned concert was unfortunately unable to go ahead, the Choir still chose to make this very kind contribution to support the cause.

It was great to welcome the Mayor of Rushmoor, Cllr. Calum Stewart, at our rehearsal yesterday. He explained about his charitable fund, Step Beyond Alderwood, which focuses on providing, inspiring, and widening opportunities for pupils at Alderwood School in Aldershot. We were very happy to make a donation to this excellent cause. Rushmoor Borough Council

Don’t forget to take your photo ID with you to the polling station if you are voting in person in the local elections tomorrow (Thursday 7 May).

Without an appropriate ID, we won’t be able to issue you with your ballot paper.

Our polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday. You can check the location of your local polling station by going to the wards and polling stations page on our website and using our address search. See link in comments.

If you are postal voting, don’t forget to return postal votes before 10pm on Thursday 7 May. The best way to return your postal vote pack is by posting it in a Royal Mail postbox, using the pre-paid envelope we provide. Please make sure you leave enough time for your postal vote pack to reach us.

On Friday morning (8 May), we'll be sharing updates from the Rushmoor count on our social media accounts and sharing all the local election results as they come in. The Hampshire results will be announced by Hampshire County Council.

Join The Mayor, Cllr Calum Stewart, at his upcoming fundraising dinner, An Evening at The Gallery…

The evening will take place on Tuesday 5 May 2026 at The Gallery Restaurant, Farnborough College of Technology — a student-run restaurant showcasing the talent and creativity of the College’s catering and hospitality students. This will be a relaxed and enjoyable evening, bringing together people from across the community for great food, entertainment, and a fantastic cause.

The evening will include:

• A welcome drink on arrival
• A five-course tasting menu
• Live entertainment
• A charity auction and raffle

All funds raised will support ‘Step Beyond Alderwood’, an aspirational fund established by the Mayor for his mayoral year to broaden the horizons of children and young people aged 4 to 16 at Alderwood School. Rooted in the belief that every child deserves access to experiences that inspire, challenge and extend their learning, the programme helps remove social, financial, and cultural barriers to opportunity. From university visits and STEM workshops to outdoor expeditions and creative masterclasses, each experience is designed to build confidence, spark curiosity, and promote lifelong learning.

Tickets are £50 per person, and with only 60 places available, so early booking is recommended.

To reserve a place, please contact the Mayor’s Office or complete the RSVP form in the comments:

As the year comes to an end, I would like to share my warmest season’s greetings to all Rushmoor residents. This time of year offers an opportunity to reflect on the achievements, challenges, and collective efforts that shape our borough, and I am grateful for the dedication and goodwill shown by so many across our area.

As we look ahead to 2026, I am pleased to continue championing opportunities for local young people through my mayoral charity, Step Beyond Alderwood. If you would like to support the programme, one simple way is by purchasing the 2026 Mayor’s Charity Calendar, with all proceeds helping to provide inspiring and enriching experiences for pupils at Alderwood School. You can purchase yours for just £10 from Princes Hall, The Dressing Up And Party Shop, or Rushmoor Borough Council.

Thank you once again for your ongoing support, and for the many contributions you make to Rushmoor.

Wishing you a peaceful and enjoyable festive season.

Warm regards,

Cllr Calum Stewart
