Should open fires be banned on Falmouth’s beaches?

A consultation has been launched, and we're asking people to share your views on a proposed ban at Gyllyngvase, Maenporth, Castle and Swanpool beaches.

Thank you Falmouth Town Council for organizing and paying for the new signs that show the location of the footpath on the Golf club. Thanks also to the land owner.
This path has made such a difference to people in the Goldenbank area but the visitors didn't know it was there and were continuing to use the road to get to the beach.
Hopefully visitors will now know how to get to the beach safely, great work by the grounds team from the town.

Easter fun on the Village green at Goldenbank. Painted egg rolling down the hill, the Mayor and I were given two beautiful painted eggs to roll.
The Mayor was also there to receive the deeds for the green which was purchased by the residents and then gifted to Falmouth Town Council. The council team will look after the green and the two play areas so that it is safe for the whole community.
This was a lovely afternoon and shows what can be done when people come together.
Thank you to the residents association for all their hard work and the invitation. My egg roll was very poor but the egg was intact 😊

What a very busy morning at the Princess Pavilion for Falmouth Town Councils Caring for our Coast morning.
We have Swanpool and Maenporth beaches which are both impacted by our changing weather.
Some in-depth conversations with the officers from the Coastal protection team, the Environment agency and Climate Vision.
It was great to get an early visit from Jayne Kirkham for Truro and Falmouth and Councillor Loic Rich CC portfolio holder for the environment.
Get in touch if you missed this drop in, I'm happy to talk further about how our Coast is changing and what we can do to protect ourselves.

Brilliant news for all the residents of Swansreach and the wider area. Fantastic work from the residents team to get this over the line and so generous of everyone to give their time and money to secure these green areas.
It is very disappointing though that it got to this point, developers need to offer these areas to Cornwall Council as they were supposed to rather than auctioning them off to the highest bidder. Town and parish councils are often keen to take these areas on for residents but that can't happen if the original process isn't followed.

What a fantastic community effort! πŸ‘

Come along on the 14th of this month to chat to experts on what may happen to our coastline in Falmouth as our weather changes.
There will be Town Councillors present to talk to and record your thoughts.
10.30 is the start time and we will be there until 1.30.
I look forward to seeing you there.

🌊 Caring for Our Coast – A Community Conversation

Residents are invited to join us on Saturday 14 March, 10.30am–1.30pm at the Princess Pavilion to learn how environmental changes may affect Falmouth and what steps we can take as a community to prepare.

At the event you will be able to:

β€’ Hear from experts
β€’ Watch short films
β€’ Learn about natural coastal defences, emergency alerts and community action
β€’ Speak directly with Falmouth Town Councillors
πŸ“ Princess Pavilion, 41 Melvill Road, TR11 4AR

If you are unable to attend, there are still practical steps you can take to prepare for major weather events:

β€’ Be informed
β€’ Sign up for alerts
β€’ Make a plan
β€’ Prepare your home
β€’ Get emergency supplies
β€’ Put together an emergency kit

You can find more information about how to prepare by visiting the link to our website in the comments below.

An update on the flooding by St Francis School on Mongleath Road.
The drain has been inspected by the Highways team and unfortunately it is not connected to any onward system. It is currently only a soakaway. Inquiries will be made regarding a proper connection but it is some distance away and with budgets set it may be some time before it can be rectified.
Hopefully the appalling weather will stop soon and it won't be such a problem in the short term.
Long term I will be pushing for the proper connection when funds allow.

This is a catch up to discuss the effects of the storm, what we can learn for the future and how to deal with the continuing impact. I’m inviting councillors too.
Do come along.

Maenporth road is shut, please don't move the barriers as you are putting yourself and others at risk. There are dangerous trees and the carriageway is damaged and undermined. Works will commence once the trees are cleared.

Please be careful today when cleaning up. The council, western power and lots of contractors will be doing their very best to get roads clear, please be patient.
I have copied a list from Jayne Kirkham for Truro and Falmouth . These are really useful numbers but if you have any other problems please get in touch with me.

There are now trees down across the constituency and a number of houses without power across Cornwall. (39,000)

**The A39 Truro to Falmouth is blocked in various places, as is the area around Ponsanooth and Devoran**

Please stay in and stay safe tonight.
