🚨⚓ Eyemouth Coastguard at RNLI Eyemouth Lifeboat Gala Day! ⚓🚨

What a brilliant day the Eyemouth Coastguard Team had attending the RNLI Eyemouth Lifeboat Gala Day on Saturday! 🌊

It was fantastic to meet so many people from the local community, have a chat, and talk about the work we do with HM Coastguard. We really enjoyed answering questions, sharing what we do, and meeting everyone who stopped by to say hello.

A huge thank you to the Eyemouth Lifeboat Crew for inviting us along and for putting on such a fantastic day. It was great to spend time with our fellow emergency and rescue service colleagues and celebrate the incredible work carried out on our coastline. 🚤🌊

Well done to everyone involved in making the day such a success — we’re already looking forward to the next one!

Be bright, be seen 🩷

See how much easier it is to spot someone in the water?

Wearing bright colours such as neon yellow, green, orange and pink can improve your visibility in the water and make it easier for others to spot you if you get into difficulty.

This morning, Eyemouth Coastguard Rescue Team was requested, alongside Dunbar Coastguard and RNLI Eyemouth Lifeboat, following a report of kayakers possibly being in difficulty.

Our teams met with the first informant, who pointed out the area of concern and provided the information they had. This was then passed on to Eyemouth Lifeboat, who were already out conducting their weekly training exercise.

The lifeboat crew were able to investigate and confirm that there were no persons at risk or requiring assistance. They did, however, identify two small vessels out fishing in the area.
With all appearing to be well, all teams were stood down and returned to their respective stations.

A big thank you to the first informant — you did exactly the right thing by reporting your concerns. If you see something at sea or along the coast that doesn’t look right, don’t hesitate to report it. It’s always better to raise the alarm and let the professionals establish whether assistance is required.

Eyemouth Coastguard Rescue Team was requested to attend a casualty on the pontoon at Eyemouth Harbour.

On arrival, the team assessed the casualty, who had sustained a dislocated knee. The casualty’s knee and leg were supported and stabilised while awaiting assistance from the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Assistance was also requested from RNLI Eyemouth Lifeboat, who attended and were able to provide much-needed pain relief to the casualty.

Once the ambulance arrived, the Coastguards and lifeboat crew assisted with the safe extraction of the casualty from the pontoon and transfer to the ambulance for onward transport to A&E.

A great example of the emergency services working together to provide care and assistance when it was needed. 👏

We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.

Mid-Month Update – Eyemouth Coastguard Rescue Team 🚨🌊

It’s been a busy first half of the month for the team, with 7 incidents attended so far.

Our callouts have included:

• A person stuck on a cliff
• Reports of an unmanned vessel
• A diver suffering from decompression sickness
• A person fallen on the coastal path with a leg injury
• A person fallen from the pier onto rocks
• A person cut off by the tide
• Assisting Police with an ongoing incident

These incidents have seen us work closely with some fantastic partner agencies, including Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance - SCAA, St Abbs Lifeboat, Northumbria police, Police Scotland, and north east ambulance service,the Scottish Ambulance Service, Berwick Coastguard rescue team and Dunbar Coastguard

We’d like to thank all of our partner agencies for their continued professionalism and teamwork. Working together is vital in keeping people safe around our coastline. 👏

With plenty of summer still ahead, please remember to check the tides, weather and sea conditions before heading out, stay aware of your surroundings and take extra care around cliffs, rocks and the water.

🌊 Familiarisation Visit with RNLI Eyemouth Lifeboat 🚤

On Tuesday evening, some of our newer team members from Eyemouth Coastguard Rescue Team, along with members of Berwick Coastguard rescue team, attended RNLI Eyemouth Lifeboat for a familiarisation visit.

These visits are a great opportunity for our newer team members to learn more about the lifeboat, its equipment and capabilities, while also building the strong working relationship between our teams.

We regularly work alongside the RNLI, so having a good understanding of each other’s equipment, boats and capabilities is extremely valuable when working together during incidents.

It was a great evening, very informative, and a brilliant opportunity to strengthen the teamwork and relationships between our organisations.
A big thank you to the RNLI Eyemouth Lifeboat crew for taking the time to show us around and share your knowledge. 🤝🌊

🌒☀️ SOLAR ECLIPSE – COASTAL SAFETY REMINDER ☀️🌒

This Wednesday evening, 12 August, we’ll be able to see a partial solar eclipse across Scotland, with the eclipse taking place between approximately 6pm and 8pm.

We know many people will be heading to the coast to enjoy the spectacle and take photographs — but please remember that the coast can be dangerous, especially when your attention is on the sky rather than your surroundings.

👀 Protect your eyes
• Never look directly at the Sun, even during an eclipse.
• Use proper, certified solar eclipse glasses or a suitable solar viewer.
• Ordinary sunglasses, cameras, binoculars or telescopes are not safe for viewing the Sun.

🌊 Stay safe at the coast
• Keep well back from cliff edges and unstable ground.
• Stay away from the base of cliffs — rockfalls can happen without warning.
• Check the tide times before heading onto beaches or rocks and make sure you won’t be cut off.
• Keep children and dogs close and away from cliff edges and the waterline.
• Take a fully charged mobile phone with you.
• Don’t put yourself at risk for the perfect photograph or selfie.

📱 If you see someone in trouble, or you get into difficulty yourself, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Eyemouth Coastguard was requested to assist the Scottish Ambulance Service following a report of a diver suspected to be suffering from decompression sickness after a dive.

On arrival at the scene, the Scottish Ambulance Service was already treating and stabilising the casualty.

Eyemouth Coastguard was tasked with establishing a secure landing site in Coldingham village for the arrival of the Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance - SCAA . Once on scene, the casualty was safely transferred to the air ambulance and flown to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for specialist treatment for diving-related illness.

A great example of the emergency services working together to ensure the casualty received the appropriate specialist care as quickly and safely as possible. 👏

We wish the casualty a safe and speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹

Don’t drink and drown ❌

Having a few drinks by the coast? Stay away from the water.

Alcohol can affect your judgement, slow your reactions and make it much harder to swim if something goes wrong.

Stick with your mates, don’t let anyone go off alone and plan how to get home safely 👥

This afternoon, Eyemouth Coastguard Rescue Team was tasked following reports of a small vessel that appeared to be unmanned and drifting from Coldingham towards Eyemouth.

The team was deployed to a number of vantage points along the coastline, and the vessel was located passing Eyemouth Harbour. Due to the distance, the team positioned at Fort Point was unable to confirm whether anyone was onboard.

HM Coastguard requested assistance from a sailing vessel in the area, which safely approached the vessel to investigate. It was quickly established that the vessel was underway under engine power with one person onboard.

Shortly afterwards, the crew of St Abbs Lifeboat arrived on scene, checked on the vessel, and confirmed the occupant was fishing, was safe and well, and required no assistance.

With everyone's safety confirmed, all responding teams were stood down and returned to station.
This incident was recorded as a False Alarm with Good Intent.

We would like to thank the member of the public who raised the alarm. They did exactly the right thing by reporting their concerns. We'd always rather investigate and find everything is well than have someone in difficulty go unreported.
