From the shoreline of Exmouth to Exeter’s historic canal and quay we welcome all watersports users and visitors who wish to enjoy one of the most beautiful and vibrant waterways in the South West of England. The

Exe Estuary extends for some 12 kilometres and plays host to an active boating and watersports community as well as being recognised as being of international importance to wildlife. The Harbour Master staff work in partnership with Estuary users to help ensure that everyone can enjoy the water safely. A warm welcome awaits you if you want to visit for an afternoon or moor a boat with us year-round. For visiting yachtsmen, sail the oldest working shipping canal in Europe, first opened to shipping in 1566 and the first canal to be built in Britain since Roman times. Enter the historic canal through Turf Lock and journey peacefully through 8 km of manmade waterway, enjoying stunning views and a variety of wildlife. 01392 265791 Mon to Fri 10:00 hrs to 15:00 hrs. Coarse fishing is available on the Exeter Canal between the Canal Office swing bridges and Turf Locks. A permit must be obtained from Exeter & District Angling Association to fish these areas

The Canoe Loops are a series of self-guided circular canoeing/ kayaking trails that link the River Exe and Exeter Ship Canal between Exeter Quayside and the Exe Estuary.

Please note that legal notices have now been placed on the vessels 'Volsung' presently moored on the Bight within the Exe Estuary and 'Suntrapper' moored at The Turf on the Exeter Ship Canal. The owners of these vessels must remove them by the 29th June, 2026. The Sustainable Seas Festival is coming to Exeter Canal Basin on Saturday 20 June, from 11am–5pm.

This free, family-friendly event celebrates our maritime heritage while highlighting the importance of keeping our seas and waterways pollution-free. Expect historic vessels, traditional crafts, talks, films, live music, opportunities to get afloat, a farmers' market and more.

A great day out by the water for all ages.

Exeter Port Authority Local Notice to Mariners

River Exe Regatta 2026

Notice is hereby given that as part of the River Exe Regatta there will be a windsurfing event taking place off the sea front over the 20th and 21st of June. Competitors will start and finish from the beach opposite Ocean Entertainment Venue by Carlton Hill Slipway.

The course will be out at sea, but competitors will cross the navigation channel at the start and finish. A safety boat will be shadowing the windsurfers. Vessels not taking part in this event are asked to keep clear of competitors within this area during this event.

Further events organised by clubs during the Exe Regatta are as follows:

Saturday 13th June Sea Fishing Competition – Best Specimen Day1 – Starcross Fishing & Cruising Club Junior Team Sailing Event – Exe Sailing Club Cruiser Race to Brixham – Topsham Sailing Club .

Sunday 14th June Sea Fishing Competition – Best Specimen Day2 – Starcross Fishing & Cruising Club

Saturday 20th June Exmouth Beach Rescue Event – Exmouth Seafront Adjacent to Lifeboat House Wind Surfing Event Day 1 – Exmouth Seafront Adjacent to NCI Tower Dinghy and Multihull Racing Day 1 – Starcross Yacht Club

Sunday 21st June Wind Surfing Event Day 2 – Exmouth Seafront Adjacent to NCI Tower Dinghy and Multihull Racing Day 2 – Starcross Yacht Club Grand Prize Giving – Starcross Yacht Club

Starcross Fishing and Cruising Club Pontoon

Notice is hereby given that the Starcross Fishing and Cruising Club pontoons will be removed for repair work between the 4th and 5th of June 2026. Existing position below:
50°37.656'N
003°26.732'W
Care should be taken when navigating around the area north of Starcross ferry pier as there will be single unlit piles inside of the hammer head. The south east pile will be lit with a double green navigation light.

The remaining sections of the marina are not to be used until further notice.

Mariners are asked to proceed with caution in this area whilst this work is undertaken.

The ferry repairs have been completed and it will start operating again tomorrow Saturday 16 May 2026 as per the May 2026 schedule.

The ferry unfortunately continues to be not fit for use following the steering gear breakdown last Sunday.
