August has been really busy for us and our wonderful volunteers! We have had a Charity golf day and a Pasty Stop-over in Cornwall, attended Gloucester Vintage Steam Fair, Families Days, Salisbury Raceday, Gloucester Vintage and Country Extravaganza and some supermarket collections. The fantastic soldiers from CLR Chivenor have collected at their weekly Park Run.
Thank you to everyone for making these events happen. Oh yes and we all managed to squeeze some leave in inbetween!

The Army Benevolent Fund is committed to supporting organisations that help improve the mental health and wellbeing of soldiers, veterans and their families. One of the partner charities we support is the Armed Forces Equine Charity, which uses equine activity and therapy to help individuals rebuild confidence, resilience and connection with others.
We have recently awarded a grant of £22,650 to support the charity’s Veterans Active Recovery Programme, funding 20 places for Army veterans. This grant will help ensure that more veterans can access the sustained, compassionate, support they need to improve their mental health and build positive futures beyond service.

Jit joined the Brigade of Gurkhas at the age of 18 and served for 13 years. A serious injury meant he had to have a below-knee amputation, which affected his mobility and independence. Our grant of £1,150 towards the cost of an electronically propelled vehicle has given him his life back.

Jit served with the Brigade of Gurkhas from 1979 to 1992 in the 2nd Battalion Gurkha Ri**es. He was recruited in Nepal when he was 18 years old and completed his initial military training in Hong Kong. Jit spent time in both countries during his military service and was also posted to Brunei and the UK. He left the Army after 13 years, having achieved the rank of Corporal.

You can read more of Jit's story here: https://armybenevolentfund.org/stories/jits-story/

Henry is the disabled son of Army veterans, Tania and Anthony. Henry’s condition affects his behaviour but thanks to the ABF’s funding of £6,000 towards a sensory room, he now has a safe, calming space, when he needs it.

Veterans, Tania and Anthony live with their four sons, Henry, Anthony, Alfred, and George, in Dorset.

Tania served for 12 years, firstly as a reservist with 6 RI**ES and then as a regular soldier with the Army Air Corps, undertaking an operational tour in Afghanistan. Anthony also served for many years in the Royal Logistic Corps.
