TOWN CENTRE UPDATE
On Wednesday, 23 September 2020, East Devon District Council’s Strategic Planning Committee will decide on the future of the town centre in Cranbrook.
Sadly, East Devon planning officers are recommending to that Committee the development of a masterplan (“Supplementary Planning Document” or SPD), which is directly opposed to what the Town Council has been negotiating for on behalf of the Cranbrook community. We believe that there is no clarity over what can be delivered via an SPD, whether it can be funded and how long it’s going to take to deliver. We believe that the developers’ proposal should be supported which would deliver a town centre within the next two years. 81% of respondents to our poll at https://poll.app.do/development-of-cranbrook-town-centre share our opinion.
All the documents, including the officers’ report, is available at:
https://democracy.eastdevon.gov.uk/ieListDocuments.aspx?CId=154&MId=1515&Ver=4
The Strategic Planning Committee will meet in public and any member of the public is entitled to attend and speak at the meeting.
If you feel strongly that Cranbrook needs a town centre and it needs it now, please help us by either attending the meeting and speaking in support of a timely delivery of the town centre or write to the Committee members.
We published relating information including a poll at https://poll.app.do/development-of-cranbrook-town-centre. If you haven’t already completed the poll, please may we invite you again to do so.
