A dispersal order has been authorised in Thames Ditton from 4pm this afternoon (Wednesday, 27 May) to 4pm on Friday, 29 May.
Inspector Chris Thoday said: “This dispersal order is intended to ensure the safety of local residents and visitors to the area and has been authorised following several reports of assault after fighting broke out in the area around Aragon Avenue and the River Thames yesterday evening (26 May).
“Our enquiries to identify those involved are ongoing, and we encourage anyone with any information to get in touch quoting PR/45260061698. With the hot weather set to continue until the weekend and the potential for additional incidents, we have decided to authorise a dispersal order to maintain public safety.
“A dispersal order gives officers the power to order a group of two or more people to leave an area if they are committing, or are likely to commit, a criminal offence, and there will be additional patrols in the area while the dispersal order is active.
“Additional patrols will take place in the area while the dispersal order is active, but we would like to reassure residents and visitors that there is no need to avoid spending time by the river or enjoying the warm weather while the dispersal order is in place, and that we have done so to ensure people can spend time here safely and enjoyably over the coming days.”
We encourage anyone who witnesses or experiences any anti-social or criminal behaviour to contact us straight away via direct message. In an emergency, always call 999.
